  • Epilepsy. What it is, what to do about it

    ROBERT S SCHWAB•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1959

  • Psychological Factors Involved in Bizarre Seizures

    Morris E Chafetz, ROBERT S SCHWAB•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1959

Attention has been directed to a group of patients with seizures who have major psychological problems. We believe that only by a team approach, via psychiatrist and neurologist, can effective treatment be accomplished. The term hysteroid epilepsy has been opposed because it offers a confused picture of the patien…

  • Headache

    ALEJANDRO P Z ARELLANO, ALEJANDRO P ARELLANO et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1954

In 61 individuals electroencephalographic studies were obtained applying a new technique for the recording from the base of the brain. Thirty-six patients were suffering with headache, and there were 25 normal subjects. The basal brain activity found has been arbitrarily divided into three grades: I, low voltage symmetrical type; II, higher voltage, 7-14 waves per second, usually asymmetrical, dominant in the left side; III, when the latter activ…

  • The Electromyogram of Handwriting

Jurgen Ruesch, JACOB E FINESINGER et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1940

Electromyographic tracings obtained during handwriting on 15 subjects are presented. A few tracings obtained during attempts at foot writing and making a fist are presented. A method is presented for the statistical analysis of the tracings, based on the measurement of successive spikes. The individual groups are defined in terms of successive maxima and minima and indices are derived which are used for the comparison of tracings. The index M (ra…
