  • A bias-corrected fixed effects estimator in the dynamic panel data model

Open Access•Chihwa Kao, Long Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Empirical Economics•2021

  • A Lagrange Multiplier test for cross-sectional dependence in a fixed effects panel data model

Open Access•Badi H Baltagi, Qu Feng et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Econometrics•2012

  • On the estimation and inference of a cointegrated regression in panel data

    Chihwa Kao, Min-Hsien Chiang•CHAPTER•Nonstationary panels, panel…•2004

In this chapter, we study the asymptotic distributions for ordinary least squares (OLS), fully modified OLS (FMOLS), and dynamic OLS (DOLS) estimators in cointegrated regression models in panel data. We show that the OLS, FMOLS, and DOLS estimators are all asymptotically normally distributed. However, the asymptotic distribution of the OLS estimator is shown to have a non-zero mean. Monte Carlo results illustrate the sampling behavior of the prop…

  • Spurious regression and residual-based tests for cointegration in panel data

  • Rational Expectations, Information Signalling and Dividend Adjustment to Permanent Earnings

Chihwa Kao, Chunchi Wu•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•1994

The authors propose a rational signaling model to investgate the information content of dividends. The model provides a direct test of the relation between unexpected dividend and earnings changes. In identifying the component of unexpected dividend changes, the authors suggest an expectations framework that accounts for the process of dividend adjustment to firms' permanent earnings. A nonlinear regression method is used to estimate the model an…

  • Two-Step Estimation of Linear Models With Ordinal Unobserved Variables

Chihwa Kao, Chunchi Wu•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•1990

This article proposes a two-step method for estimating the impact of bond indenture provisions and other financial variables on the risk and yields of investment-grade and speculative corporate bonds. In the first step, the default risk of bonds is estimated as a function of indenture provisions and the characteristics of bonds and the issuing firms by an ordered probit. In the second step, the effects of default risk and bond characteristics on …
