Does the control of corruption cause progress in democracy and if so, through which channels? A threshold non-linear analysis
This article focuses on three main limitations of the literature regarding the impact of corruption on democracy. These are the distinctions between causality and correlation, channels underlying the impact and the shape of the relationship. The study uses recent developments in panel data causality and non-linear econometrics, breaks democracy down into different components and analyses the form of the relationship. The second impact relates to the transfer of the norms of the host country to the home country. The existence of both impacts is confirmed using different indicators of institutional quality. The effects a…

Firm Sponsored Training and Productivity in Morocco
Using a sample of around 500 large and small firms covering six industries in Morocco, the article investigates the relationship between a firm's training decision in 1999 and labour productivity in subsequent years. The analytical framework allows output to depend on unobserved-time-invariant firm characteristics and assumes that technical progress depends on training. Controlling for unobserved heterogeneity among firms and correcting for poten…

Measuring total-factor agricultural productivity under drought conditions: The case of Morocco
There is recognition in Morocco that the country's agricultural support policy of the past, when rainfall was adequate, has become counter-productive now that droughts are more frequent. How to align policy with the new climatic reality is currently being discussed, and different research needs to assess alternative policy options for the future have been identified. One, which we address in this article, is to take a retrospective view of the re…
