  • Is Transhumanism a New Face of Bioethics

    Open Access•Grzegorz Holub•ARTICLE•Revista de Filosofia Aurora•2020

The paper deals with a possible interdependence between bioethics and transhumanism. It seems that nowadays transhumanism is a separate discipline and we can say at most about bioethical aspects of that. However, a more in-depth investigation reveals that transhumanism is a rival of the contemporary bioethics and tends to take control over it. So, this paper tried to prove that this is not a necessity. There are still vital differences between bi…

  • Human Dignity

    Open Access•Grzegorz Holub•ARTICLE•Filosofija. Sociologija•2019

Human dignity is an important part of Western culture, which has spread over the world, and theses on it can be considered in and applied to various spheres of human life and whole societies. In this paper, a selected aspect of dignity is undertaken, namely, how we get to know and understand dignity. This aspect is considered by personalists and other philosophers interested in shedding some light on human dignity. Two approaches to the matter ar…

  • Human Enhancement Ethics and Uncertainty

    Open Access•Grzegorz Holub•ARTICLE•Filosofija. Sociologija•2018

This article deals with some uncertainties associated with human enhancement ethics. It presents the latter as a kind of a narrative made up of scientific and philosophical concepts. In the paper it is shown that scientific notions underpinning the human enhancement tendency are burdened with a substantial level of uncertainty, especially when the radical enhancement is considered. On the level of philosophical thinking, we encounter many unresol…

  • The experience of human being in the thought of Karol Wojtyla

    Open Access•Grzegorz Holub, Piotr Stanislaw Mazur•ARTICLE•Filosofija. Sociologija•2017

This paper undertakes an issue of human experience as presented by Karol Wojtyla. He proposed an interesting combination of internal and external experiences, which results from phenomenological and personalistic thinking. At the same time, he juxtaposed his proposal with a phenomenalistic (naturalistic) approach. However, Wojtyla did not elaborate on the contrast between these two positions. Hence, in this article there is an attempt to compleme…

  • How Philosophy Can Help in Creative Thinking

    Open Access•Grzegorz Holub, Piotr DUCHLIŃSKI•ARTICLE•Creativity Studies•2016

In this paper we aim to show that philosophy can be helpful in creative thinking. Although we take into account only selected philosophical concepts and rules, we will try to demonstrate that a person who has a good command over these few ideas can formulate new ideas and projects when confronted with new and demanding situations. Correspondingly, the ability to think abstractly in some specific circumstances can lead to positive and unexpected r…

  • The person in dialogue, the person through dialogue

    Open Access•Grzegorz Holub•ARTICLE•Filosofija. Sociologija•2016

In this article we consider a thesis that is quite typical of the philosophy of dialogue: namely, that it is in dialogue that the person comes to be. We present the thesis drawing upon the ideas of Martin Buber, John Macmurray and Calvin Schrag. (The last of these is not himself a fully-fledged philosopher of dialogue, but he does shed some light on the ideas of the others.) We also analyze the ideas developed by Karol Wojtyla, who – although he …
