  • Excavations in the central area of the roman fort at Băneasa (Teleorman County)

Open Access•Bucureşti Muzeul Naţional de Istorie a României, Eugen S Teodor et al.•ARTICLE•Cercetări Arheologice•2023

During the last two archaeological campaigns (2021-2022) we worked in the central area of the large fort at Băneasa. As we expected, the trenches have intersected the defensive ditch of the second phase of the fort (it shrank at less than half of the original surface), and the new gate of the eastern precinct. The two phases are similar in many respects, as the shape and the size of the ditch, the almost flat rampart, the undersized palisade, as …

  • Excavations at the Eastern Gate of the Băneasa Roman fort

    Open Access•Eugen S Teodor, Emil Dumitrașcu•ARTICLE•Cercetări Arheologice•2019

Within the short archaeological campaigns from 2018 and 2019 we have excavated at the middle of the eastern side of the large fort from Băneasa (Teleorman County), facing the frontier’s palisade. It has been discovered one of the gates (first to be studied) of an unusual type: there is only one tower, made of wood, almost twice longer than wide, used as an entrance way, 2.4 m in width. The gate itself was made of a grid of horizontal and vertical…

  • Roman Age pottery at the fort Băneasa, collected in 2017 archaeological campaign

    Open Access•Eugen S Teodor, Emil Dumitrașcu•ARTICLE•Cercetări Arheologice•2018

The authors are testing here an older impression, that the Roman pottery from western and eastern sides of the Olt River (Alutus) is not exactly the same. In order to accomplish a comparison, they are using two sets of data: the normalised data offered by the old monograph of the Roman pottery from Oltenia (Popilian 1976) and the ceramic inventory from the digging campaign at the Roman fort from Băneasa (Teleorman county, 20 km east of Olt River)…

  • Archaeological excavations at the roman fort Băneasa in the summer 2017

In the autumn of 2011, from October to December, an archaeological diagnostic was undertaken along the route of the future A1 motorway (Sibiu–Orăştie section), sector 1, between 0–24+110 km (Orăştie– Sebeş). Along this motorway sector 11 archeological sites were identified and excavated during the 2012 campaign. Also, at km 15+500 of this motorway sector, during the diagnosis stage, two medieval dwellings and a pit were identified and excavated. …

  • Cercetări arheologice preventive în așezarea din epoca bronzului de la Stejeriș I (jud. Cluj)

Open Access•Emil Dumitrașcu, Sorin Cleșiu et al.•ARTICLE•Cercetări Arheologice•2014

An archaeological research was carried out at Stejeri (Moldoveneti commune, Cluj county) within the "Autostrada" National Research Project, during August-September 2014. As a resuit of the archaeological excavations four archaeological complexes were identified and investigated: two dwellings, pits and a cult construction dating to the Middle Bronze Age (Wietenberg culture). This article presents new archaeological evidence, as well as a selectio…

  • Cercetări arheologice preventive la Balomiru de Câmp (jud. Alba)

Open Access•Emil Dumitrașcu, Alexandru Rațiu et al.•ARTICLE•Cercetări Arheologice•2013

The archaeological research at Balomiru de Câmp (Şibot commune, Alba County) was undertaken in the framework of Autostrada National Research Project and was carried out in April-May 2012. The archaeological excavations led to the discovery of 13 archaeological complexes: a Roman building and its debris, 8 dwellings and 2 kilns from the Early Medieval period. The Roman building represents an annex of a rural Villa type complex from the 2

  • Atelierul” de procesare a minereului aurifer și necropola romană de incinerație de la Jig-Piciorag, Roșia Montană

Open Access•Mihaela Simion, Ionuț Bocan et al.•ARTICLE•Cercetări Arheologice•2008

The five necropolises and two funerary areas investigated up to now at Roşia Montană have a particular feature due to the economic context in which are involved the ancient communities attested — from an archaeological perspective — in here during the Roman period, namely an environment linked to the exploitation of the gold and silver deposits existing in the region. It is obvious that certain aspects regarding the funerary rite and ritual of th…
