  • Variation in predicted Covid‐19 risk among lemurs and lorises

    Open Access•Amanda D Melin, Joseph D Orkin et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2021

The novel coronavirus SARS‐CoV‐2, which in humans leads to the disease COVID‐19, has caused global disruption and more than 2 million fatalities since it first emerged in late 2019. As we write, infection rates are at their highest point globally and are rising extremely rapidly in some areas due to more infectious variants. The primary target of SARS‐CoV‐2 is the cellular receptor angiotensin‐converting enzyme‐2 (ACE2). Recent sequence analyses …

  • Quantitative Genetics of Response to Novelty and Other Stimuli by Infant Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta) Across Three Behavioral Assessments

    Open Access•Gloria L Fawcett, Amanda M Dettmer et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014•Cited by: 2•References: 52

  • Polymorphic microsatellite loci for the common marmoset ( Callithrix jacchus ) designed using a cost‐ and time‐efficient method

Open Access•Muthuswamy Raveendran, Suzette D Tardif et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2008

We describe a cost‐ and time‐efficient method for designing new microsatellite markers in any species with substantial genomic DNA sequence data available. Using this technique, we report 14 new polymorphic dinucleotide microsatellite loci isolated from the common marmoset. The relative yield of new polymorphisms was higher with less labor than described in previous marmoset studies. Of 20 loci initially evaluated, 14 were polymorphic and amplifi…

  • Trisomy 17 in a baboon ( Papio hamadryas ) with polydactyly, patent foramen ovale and pyelectasis

    Open Access•Charleen M Moore, Gene B Hubbard et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2007

Trisomy 13 in humans is the third most common autosomal abnormality at birth, after trisomy 21 and trisomy 18. It has a reported incidence of between 1:5,000 and 1:30,000 live births. It is associated with multiple abnormalities, many of which shorten lifespan. We describe here the first reported case of a baboon ( Papio hamadryas ) with trisomy of chromosome 17, which is homologous to human chromosome 13. The trisomic infant was born to a consan…
