  • Milk composition reflects pattern of material care in prosimian primates

    Open Access•Christopher D Tilden, Olav T Oftedal•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•1997

Hypothesized relationships between milk composition and life history traits were examined by analyzing mid-lactation milks of seven lemurs (Eulemur fulvus, E. macaco, E. rubriventer, E. mongoz, Varecia variegata, Hapalemur griseus, Lemur catta), three bushbabies (Otolemur crassicaudatus, O. garnettii, Galago moholi), and two lorises (Nycticebus coucang, Loris tardigradus); partial data were also obtained for the lemuroid Cheirogaleus medius. Ther…

  • A study of locomotor behavior in a captive colony of red‐bellied lemurs ( Eulemur rubriventer )

    Open Access•Christopher D Tilden•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•1990

The considerable diversity of locomotor behavior within the suborder Prosimii largely is due to differences in locomotion between families. Within families, locomotion is relatively homogeneous, although some species, such as Otolemur crassicaudatus among the galagids and Hapalemur simus and Lepilemur spp. among the lemurids, differ from other species in their family. This paper describes the locomotion of a captive colony of red‐bellied lemurs, …
