  • Where the small things are

Open Access•Fernando Mercado Malabet, Malcolm A Ramsay et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2025

Edge effects result from the penetration to varying depths and intensities, of abiotic and biotic conditions from the surrounding non‐forest matrix into the forest interior. Although 70% of the world's forests are within 1 km of a forest edge, making edge effects a dominant feature of most forest habitats, there are few empirical data on inter‐site differences in edge responses in primates. We used spatially explicit capture‐recapture (SECR) mode…

  • Context and future directions for integrating forest carbon into sub-national climate mitigation planning in the RGGI region of the U.S

    Open Access•Rachel Lamb, G C Hurtt et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2021

International frameworks for climate mitigation that build from national actions have been developed under the United National Framework Convention on Climate Change and advanced most recently through the Paris Climate Agreement. In parallel, sub-national actors have set greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals and developed corresponding climate mitigation plans. Within the U.S., multi-state coalitions have formed to facilitate coordination of relat…

  • Geographic comparison of plant genera used in frugivory among the pitheciids Cacajao , Callicebus , Chiropotes , and Pithecia

    Open Access•Sarah A Boyle, Chad L Thompson et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2016

Pitheciids are known for their frugivorous diets, but there has been no broad-scale comparison of fruit genera used by these primates that range across five geographic regions in South America. We compiled 31 fruit lists from data collected from 18 species (three Cacajao, six Callicebus, five Chiropotes, and four Pithecia) at 26 study sites in six countries. Together, these lists contained 455 plant genera from 96 families. We predicted that 1) c…

  • Terrestrial Activity in Pitheciins ( C acajao , C hiropotes , and P ithecia )

    Open Access•Adrian A Barnett, Sarah A Boyle et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2012

Neotropical monkeys of the genera C acajao , C hiropotes , and P ithecia ( P itheciidae) are considered to be highly arboreal, spending most of their time feeding and traveling in the upper canopy. Until now, the use of terrestrial substrates has not been analyzed in detail in this group. Here, we review the frequency of terrestrial use among pitheciin taxa to determine the ecological and social conditions that might lead to such behavior. We col…
