  • Development Projects, Models of Capitalism, and Political Regimes in Brazil, 1988-2021

    Open Access•Carlos Eduardo Santos Pinho•ARTICLE•Latin American Perspectives•2023•References: 11

The Bolsonaro government combines authoritarianism with a model of capitalism that destroys social rights. Despite the expansion of the neoliberal reforms put in place during the 1990s and the decline of the inclusionary policies of the 2000s, there is a causal link between the content of neoliberal public policies, the drop in the level of political participation in their implementation, the militarization of the Bolsonaro government, and the de…

  • Estratégias De Desenvolvimento No Brasil: Comparando Autoritarismo (1974-1979) E Democracia (2011-2016)

    Open Access•Carlos Eduardo Santos Pinho•ARTICLE•Sociedade e Estado•2021•Cited by: 7•References: 8

This article is based on a theoretical-conceptual framework and empirically grounded research to analyze the construction of discourse and institutional insertion of ideas from epistemic communities of fiscal austerity in Brazil, given the recent upsurge in liberal-orthodox policies and their repercussions for the welfare state. The study explores who these actors and institutions are, how they act, how they are organized, and who trains or finan…

  • The responses of the authoritarian national developmentalism to the structural economic crisis (1973-1985)

    Open Access•Carlos Eduardo Santos Pinho•ARTICLE•Brazilian Journal of Political…•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 1

This research analyzes the Brazilian structural economic crisis throughout the 1970s and 1980s and the political responses of the Authoritarian National Developmentalism (1964-1985). Firstly, the study highlights the nature of the international oil crises of 1973 and 1979, showing an unexpected rise in interest rates by the US Central Bank and the tightening of external credit after 1979. Rising interest rates meant the end of liquidity in the in…

Renato Raul Boschi, Carlos Eduardo Santos Pinho•ARTICLE•Contemporary Politics•2019•Cited by: 9•References: 25

In the methodological framework of comparative capitalism (CC) of this special edition, the article analyzes theoretically and empirically, in the scope of economic globalisation, the recent trajectory of Brazilian capitalist development. The objective is to emphasise the crisis of the variety of coordinated and state-regulated capitalism (2003–2016) and its subsequent metamorphosis into a variety of ultraliberal and undemocratic capitalism (2016…

    Open Access•Carlos Eduardo Santos Pinho•ARTICLE•AMÉRICA LATINA HOY•2012•Cited by: 1
