  • Context clues

Open Access•Krista Lough, Ryan Wallace et al.•ARTICLE•Newspaper Research Journal•2024

This study examines media trust and how members of the public perceive and value various journalistic roles using a nationally representative survey (n = 1,026) to redefine and confirm how the American public places significant value on the contextualist role of journalism. The individual journalistic functions that make up contextual reporting are also highly valued. Media trust is primarily predicted by overall journalistic role perception, eve…

  • United Against Rabies Forum

Open Access•Rachel Tidman, Anna S Fahrion et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Rabies continues to kill an estimated 59,000 people annually, with up to 99% of human cases transmitted by domestic dogs. The elimination of human deaths from dog-mediated rabies is achievable by applying a One Health approach, and the framework to do this is outlined in Zero by 30: the Global Strategic Plan to end human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030. To build on this global goal, and implement the approaches set out in Zero by 30, the …

  • Measuring the impact of an integrated bite case management program on the detection of canine rabies cases in Vietnam

Open Access•Yasmeen B Ross, Yasmeen Ross et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Introduction: Dog-mediated rabies is enzootic in Vietnam, resulting in at least 70 reported human deaths and 500,000 human rabies exposures annually. In 2016, an integrated bite cases management (IBCM) based surveillance program was developed to improve knowledge of the dog-mediated rabies burden in Phu Tho Province of Vietnam. Methods: The Vietnam Animal Rabies Surveillance Program (VARSP) was established in four stages: (1) Laboratory developme…

  • United Against Rabies Forum

Open Access•Rachel Tidman, SM Thumbi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Human deaths from rabies are preventable and can be eliminated by applying a systematic One Health approach. However, this ancient disease still threatens the lives of millions of people in up to 150 countries and kills an estimated 59, 000 people every year. Rabies today is largely a disease of poverty, almost always linked to dog bites, with most deaths occurring in neglected communities in Africa and Asia. The disease places an immense economi…

  • Every Dog Has Its Data

Open Access•Benjamin Monroe, Fleurinord Ludder et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Background: Robust dog vaccination coverage is the primary way to eliminate canine rabies. Haiti conducts annual canine mass vaccination campaigns, but still has the most human deaths in the Latin American and Caribbean region. We conducted an evaluation of dog vaccination methods in Haiti to determine if more intensive, data-driven vaccination methods, using smartphones for data reporting and geo-communication, could increase vaccination coverag…
