This article presents two Scottish museum collections as case studies for exploring cultures of collecting on the mid-nineteenth-century Northwest Coast of Canada. The collections of fur trader Colin Robertson (1833) and geologist James Hector (1861) reflect the transformations in value of Indigenous material culture from the Enlightenment to the Victorian period in Britain, and this article examines the uses to which they were put.
