  • Resilience, ageing, and quality of life in long-term diagnosed HIV-infected patients

Carmina R Fumaz, Aintzane Ayestaran et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2015

Resilience is a predictor of emotional well-being and psychological adjustment in people living with HIV infection. We report the results of a cross-sectional study in which we evaluated resilience and its association with perception of ageing, coping strategies, quality of life, and emotional status in a group of long-term diagnosed HIV-infected patients. The analysis included 151 consecutive participants (57.6% men). Resilience was moderately h…

  • Sustained antiretroviral treatment adherence in survivors of the pre-Haart era: Attitudes and beliefs

    C R Fumaz, José A Muñoz-Moreno et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2008

The objective of this study was to assess adherence of HIV-1-infected patients who started treatment in the pre-HAART era and to determine variables associated with better adherence, including relevant attitudes and beliefs. This is a cross-sectional study enrolling patients who had received antiretroviral therapy for >or=10 years. Adherence was evaluated through self-reporting and plasma drug concentrations. Treatment variables, attitudes and be…

  • Human Mummification Practices at Ismant El-Kharab

Open Access•C Aufderheide, Michael Zlonis et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology•1999

An estimated 169 inhumations were identified in 15 tomb chambers of the west cemetery at the Roman Period site of Ismant el-Kharab (Kellis) in Egypt's Dakhleh Oasis in the western desert. Of these, 50 were in the form of mummified human remains, about half of which represented deliberate, anthropogenic (‘artificial’) mummification. Comparison of mortuary practices with contemporary ones of the Nile Valley revealed some general similarities but al…

  • System of measurement of the severity of periodontal disease in past populations

    Open Access•Salme E Lavigne, Joseph E Molto et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1995•Cited by: 5•References: 22

This paper presents a review of the antiquity of periodontal disease, discussing past aetiological concepts in comparison to current research on the causes of this condition. As periodontal disease is analysable on dry bone specimens, it is possible to document its natural history. To date, little work has been done on an actual system of measurement for periodontal disease in such specimens. A new system of measurement is proposed, which is conf…

  • Differential diagnosis of rib lesions: A case study from middle woodland southern Ontario Circa 230 A.D

    Open Access•J E Molto, Jose Moltó•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1990•Cited by: 8•References: 14

The right ribs of an adult male (#18) from the LeVesconte Burial Mound in southern Ontario show extensive osteolytic and/or osteoblastic lesions, some with bone thickening, interpreted herein as evidence of a chronic actinomycotic infection. In the alveolus, the presence of periapical abscesses and periodonitis with secondary inflammation may be associated with the pathogenesis of this bacterial disease by providing the normally commensurate Acti…

  • The assessment and meaning of intraobserver error in population studies based on discontinuous cranial traits

    Open Access•J E Molto, Jose Moltó•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1979•Cited by: 7•References: 18

Intraobserver scoring precision of 50 discontinuous (discrete) cranial traits was assessed on a sample of 125 intact Iroquois crania using the square of the phi coefficient. Scoring consistency was high for most traits though several were subject to low precision (θ 2
