Aims and Objectives: This study investigates the emergence of Russian-borrowed quotatives tipa ‘like’ and takoj ‘such’ in Kazakh. First, we analyze the conversational functions that these quotatives have assumed in Kazakh spoken discourse from Kazakhstan.
