Open Access•Moscow Russia Independent researcher, Aleksandr Vasil’ev et al.•ARTICLE•Уфимский археологический вестник•2025

The research offers a comprehensive analysis of two finds made at kurgan 21 of Valovyi burial mound in Rostov Region. The site was examined by an Azov Museum expedition in 1987 led by E.I. Bespalyi. The study focuses on the finds represented by a belt buckle and a cast cross-shaped brass item. The buckle has a faceted oval frame, a rectangular cover and a grid-like decoration. • The Tegi Khanty idiom and selected issues of the vowel system (a comparative analysis with Kazym Khanty dialect)

Open Access•V A Ivanov, Moscow Russia Independent researcher et al.•ARTICLE•Languages and Folklore of…•2025

This paper presents a description and comparative analysis of the vowel phoneme systems of two Khanty idioms: the Tegi idiom and the Kazym dialect of the West Khanty dialectal group. The study is based on original field data collected in the village of Tegi in 2010–2012 and in Kazym in 2018, both located in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra. Emphasis is placed on defining the term “Tegi idiom,” and the socio- and ethnolinguistic circumstanc…

  • Theoretical Discussion in Soviet Medieval Studies 1951–1953

Moscow Russia Independent researcher, Anton Afanasiev•ARTICLE•Philosophical Literary Journal…•2022

The article deals with the discussion about theoretical works of Boris Porshnev in 1951–1953. The aim of this study was to explain a tremendous shift from the classbased ideological approach to periodization of European history (Porshnev) to an economic-oriented approach (Evgeny Kosminsky, Sergey Skazkin, etc.) while the paradigm of Short Course and marxist methodology have remained unchanged since the 1930s. Defeating Porshnev wasn’t Kosminsky’s…

  • Games That Kill Us

    Open Access•Moscow Russia Independent researcher, E S Sokolov•ARTICLE•Sociology of power•2020

The paper investigates the video game discourse of the Russian state media from 2011 to 2015. Critical discourse analysis serves as a methodological framework for this work, and Foucault’s power/knowledge model is used to explain the logic behind the «grotesque discourses». In the Russian press, video games are described as an instance of inculcation, provoking overintense emotions and forcing individuals to commit symbolic acts impossible from t…

  • Death Stranding, Hobbes and the Problem of Social Order

    Open Access•Moscow Russia Independent researcher, S V Kozlov et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology of power•2020

In this article I describe the implicit conceptualization of social order which exists in Death Stranding — localized in both the setting and the mechanics of the game — and compare it with the conceptualization of Thomas Hobbes’s “Leviathan”. First, the theoretical tension between Death Stranding and “Leviathan” is traced: the speculative conceptualization of the Leviathan and the procedural conceptualization of Death Stranding are compared by c…

  • Labour and the Ecological Critique of Capitalism in Videogames

    Open Access•A R Awagjan, A A Kalugin et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology of power•2020

In this paper we conduct an analysis of the critical narratives of Stardew Valley and compare them to other relevant videogames in order to develop new possibilities for an ecological critique of capitalist extractive economies. Critical narratives of this game are aimed primarily at the alienating conditions of labour and deeply devastating modes of production under capitalism that impact and severely damage the environment. Analysing these nar…

  • The Conflict of Alterity Models in John Law’s Actor-Network Theory

    Open Access•Moscow Russia Independent researcher, V S Shevchenko•ARTICLE•Sociology of power•2019

lt;p>This paper aims to articulate the conflict of alterity models in the work of John Law. These models were elaborated to overcome the critique of actor-network theory (ANT) launched by the academic community in 1990s. A periodization of Law's work is performed and relevant conceptual resources extracted for each of its stages. His work is periodized as a Bloorian sociology of scientific knowledge, Foucauldian actor-network theory, and Deleuz-i…

  • Happiness for All

    Open Access•Moscow Russia Independent researcher, O O Goncharova•ARTICLE•Sociology of power•2019

lt;p>The article is devoted to the analysis of happiness as a category of social theory, which-at the beginning of the XXI century-became not only a new subject of sociological research but also the basis of government programs in several countries, including the United Kingdom. "Happiness” became the basis of social order due to a revival of the interest of modern scholars in the works of Jeremy Bentham and other philosophers of the Enlightenmen…

  • Communitas as the “essential We”

    Open Access•Moscow Russia Independent researcher, N S Vorobyeva•ARTICLE•Sociology of power•2019

lt;p>This article aims to revise a common interpretation of V. Turner's concept of communitas in the context of the dialogical philosophy of М. Buber, whose influence has been mostly overlooked by researchers. Communitas is usually seen from the Durkheimian perspective and his notions of the sacred, solidarity and especially effervescence; it is conventionally defined as a transgressive collective experience when individual identities are suppose…

  • Symmetrical Anthropology as a Radical Empiricism

    Open Access•Moscow Russia Independent researcher, A V Voronkov•ARTICLE•Sociology of power•2019

lt;p>This work is focused on the radical empiricism of William James as a theoretical resource for Bruno Latour's symmetric anthropology of the Moderns. This work aims to answer the following question: what are the conceptual innovations of Latour's latest work (An Inquiry into Modes of Existence, 2013), and which theoretical goals can they achieve compared to the classical version of actor-network theory? In order to answer this question, the ge…

  • Animal Politics and its Enemies

    Open Access•Nizhny Novgorod Russia NSPU K Minina, E V Kuchinov et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology of power•2019

The article is devoted to a criticism of contemporary "animal politics" which are supposedly immersed in a situation of a humanistic correlationism that forces us to think of - and interact with - the animal only in connection with and through the human. Our critical evaluation focuses primarily on conceptions of a "common world" and Brian Massumi's zoology of play. Aiming to conceptualize what is not taken into account in these programs, this st…

  • Social Magic

    Open Access•Moscow Russia Independent researcher, S V Kozlov•ARTICLE•Sociology of power•2019

lt;p>This article is an attempt to sequentially explicate and reconceptualize the term «social magic» in the dictionary of Pierre Bourdieu. «Social magic», arising in the Bourdieu system of concepts in the context of an attempt to describe acts of symbolic power and inheriting the conceptualization of Marcel Mauss' magic, is a multi-valued term; it is hard to say with certainty whether it is a metaphor, another name for this or that concept of re…
