Open Access•Agata Debowska, Aleksandra Chłopecka et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2026•References: 3

This study examines whether a personal experience narrative (PEN) can be used to elicit positive reactions to psychological intimate partner violence (PIPV) survivors. We conducted an experimental vignette-based study among 430 young adults (50.5% men; aged 18-25 years) to compare the effect of narrative formats (written PEN, audio PEN, video PEN, and non-PEN control condition) as delivered by a female and male survivor. The results demonstrate t…

  • Does poverty moderate within-family relations between children’s and parents’ mental health

Open Access•Zeliha E Saribaz, Lydia Gabriela Speyer et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2025

Children from lower income backgrounds are more vulnerable to psychopathology but it is unclear why. One possibility is that poverty amplifies the effects of other risk factors, such as parental distress, on child mental health problems. Previous relevant studies often had cross-sectional designs or relied on traditional cross-lagged panel designs, which have methodological drawbacks. Designs that disentangle within- and between-family effects ca…

  • Links of Adversity in Childhood With Mental and Physical Health Outcomes: A Systematic Review of Longitudinal Mediating and Moderating Mechanisms

    Open Access•George K Hales, Zeliha E Saribaz et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2023

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been associated with causes of early death, addiction, mental illness, and poor health. However, studies investigating underlying mechanisms often rely on cross-sectional data or inappropriate study designs. To prevent the negative sequelae associated with ACEs, it is imperative to understand the mechanisms underlying the prospective relationship. The aim of this present review was to provide a synthesis …

  • Profiles of Intimate Partner Violence Victimization: A Systematic Review

Open Access•Maisie Hall, Emily Hill et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2023

Person-centered approaches, such as latent class analysis (LCA) and latent profile analysis (LPA), aid the identification of subgroups within sample populations. These methods can identify the patterns of co-occurrence between different forms of intimate partner violence (IPV), providing valuable information for prevention and intervention efforts. The aim of this systematic review was to yield a summary and conduct a critical evaluation of the c…

  • The Effect of Victim Attractiveness and Type of Abuse Suffered on Attributions of Victim Blame and Credibility in Intimate Partner Violence: A Vignette-Based Online Experiment

    Open Access•Maisie Hall, Agata Debowska et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) are frequently blamed and disbelieved, which may affect their willingness to report their abuse experiences. This vignette-based online experiment examines whether victim attractiveness (attractive vs. unattractive) and the type of abuse suffered (psychological vs. psychological plus physical abuse) may impact attributions of victim blame or victim credibility. The final sample included 167 UK residents …

Daniel Boduszek, Agata Debowska et al.•ARTICLE•Deviant Behavior•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 25

The objective of the current study was to develop a revised version of the Psychopathic Personality Traits Scale (PPTS-R) with an increased number of indicators to more reliably capture the four dimensions of the Psychopathic Personality Traits Model (PPTM). Dimensionality, construct validity, and reliability of the PPTS-R was examined among general (N = 1989) and prison (N = 638) population. Three competing models of the PPTS-R were specified an…
