  • Structural and Optical Characterization of ZnO and Glucose Capped ZnO Nanoparticles

    A Dhanalakshmi, S Thanikaikarasan et al.•ARTICLE•New Materialisms•2018

Zinc Oxide and Glucose capped Zinc Oxide nanoparticles have been prepared using modified chemical reaction method. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the prepared samples possess polycrystalline nature with hexagonal structure. Surface morphology has been analyzed using scanning electron microscopy. The estimated value of band gap was found to be 3.41 and 3.87 eV for Zinc Oxide and Glucose capped ZnO respectively. Fourier Transform Infrared s…

  • Development and Characterization of an Ecological Hydrogen Stove

    Yanhsy Hernández, J Moreira et al.•ARTICLE•New Materialisms•2018

In this work we developed and evaluated an ecological stove for food cooking, using hydrogen as the fuel. The operation of the device consists mainly of a renewable energy source, such as a photovoltaic system, which produces the electricity needed to power a bipolar alkaline electrolyzer from 1 kW to 1.9 kW, consisting of 85 stainless steel electrodes, which generates hydrogen for combustion in the cooking system. The prototype evaluation consis…

  • Synthesis and Functionalization of L, DL-Iso, Nor, Leucine on Porous Silicon for Sensing Application

    Paulraj Jeyakumar, P D Jeyakumar et al.•ARTICLE•New Materialisms•2015

The etching process of Porous Silicon has been carried out using an electrochemical oxidation technique. Oxidized samples were immobilized with -Leucine, DL-Iso Leucine and DL-Nor Leucine solutions. Surface morphology and optical properties of the samples have been analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and optical absorption analysis techniques respectively. The bonding characteristics on the surface before and after amino acid deposition h…

  • Investigations on the Effect of Chitin Nanofiber in PMMA Based Solid Polymer Electrolyte Systems

    P M Shyly, S Dawn Dharma Roy et al.•ARTICLE•New Materialisms•2014

Polymer electrolyte membranes find application in a variety of fields such as battery systems, fuel cells, sensors and other electrochemical devices. In this paper we have done some investigations on the effect of chitin nanofiber (CNF) in PMMA based solid polymer electrolyte systems. CNF was synthesized from shrimp cell chitin by stepwise purification and acid hydrolysis method. PMMA basedelectrolyte films containing different concentrations of …

  • Effect of Nanochitosan on Structural, Thermal and Electrochemical Properties of Poly Ether Based Polymer Electrolytes Complexed with Lithium Bis(Trifluoromethanesulfonyl Imide)

    K Karuppasamy, S Thanikaikarasan et al.•ARTICLE•New Materialisms•2014

In this research, nanocomposite membranes were prepared using polyethylene oxide as polymer host, lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl imide) as salt and nanochitosan as inert filler. Initially nanochitosan was prepared from chitosan by ionotropic gelation method. Nanocomposite membranes were prepared by solvent free membrane hot press technique. The prepared membranes possessed excellent physico-chemical properties. The complexing behavior and s…

  • Effect of Chitin Nanofibres on the Electrochemical and Interfacial Properties of Composite Solid Polymer Electrolytes

    K Karuppasamy, S Thanikaikarasan et al.•ARTICLE•New Materialisms•2013

Chitin nanofibres (CNF) are synthesized from a biopolymer chitin by ultra-pure chemical curing method. The nanocomposite solid polymer electrolytes (CSPE) based on PEO-LiBOB with chitin nanofibres as inert nanofiller are prepared by membrane hot-press method. The polymer membrane obtained is subjected to various electrochemical studies such as impedance analysis, cyclic voltammetry and compatibility studies. The crystalline behavior and structura…

  • Electrodeposition of CdSe Thin Films from Aqueous Solution

    T Mahalingam, V Dhanasekaran et al.•ARTICLE•New Materialisms•2011

CdSe thin film was electrodeposited from an aqueous solution of CdSO4 and H2SeO3 at 75oC on indium tin oxide (ITO)-covered glass substrates. The deposition films were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive analysis by X-rays (EDAX), photoluminescence (PL) and UV spectrometry, respectively. XRD analysis shows that the films are exhibit in polycrystalline nature with hexagonal structure. Th…

  • Electroplated CuO Thin Films from High Alkaline Solutions

    V Dhanasekaran, T Mahalingam et al.•ARTICLE•New Materialisms•2011

CuO thin films were coated on ITO substrates by an electrodeposition route through potentiostatic mode. The electrodeposited CuO thin films were characterized and the role of copper sulphate concentration on the structural, morphological and optical properties of the CuO films was studied. Film thickness was measured by a stylus profilometer and found to be in the range between 800 and 1400 nm. The structural characteristics studies were carried …
