  • A new phoenix? Large plants regeneration policies in Italy

Open Access•Antonio Accetturo, Giuseppe Albanese et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Regional Science•2020

The fall of employment in manufacturing that the world's most advanced economies have been experiencing in the past 40 years has triggered a number of policies, undertaken in several countries. In this paper, we evaluate the effectiveness of a place‐based policy, carried out in Italy, aimed at both generating private investments and increasing employment in areas affected by deep industrial decline. By means of an instrumental variable identifica…

  • Housing Supply Elasticity and Growth: Evidence from Italian Cities

Open Access•Antonio Accetturo, Andrea Lamorgese et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Economic Geography•2020•Cited by: 4•References: 1

Second, we show that differences in the elasticity of housing supply may determine the extent to which a demand shock …

  • The effects of common culture and language on economic exchanges: Evidence from tourist flows

Antonio Accetturo, Michele Cascarano et al.•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 1

This paper analyzes the impact of cultural proximity on economic exchanges and, in particular, on tourist flows. It exploits the cultural heterogeneity in South Tyrol, an Italian region bordering on Austria and Switzerland where two main linguistic groups (Italian and German) coexist. It is shown that the share of tourism by German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) positively correlates with the share of the local population b…

  • Skills or culture? An analysis of the decision to work by immigrant women in Italy

    Open Access•Antonio Accetturo, Luigi Infante•ARTICLE•IZA Journal of Migration•2013•Cited by: 9•References: 31

Activity and employment rates for immigrant women in many industrialised countries display a great variability across national groups. The aim of this paper is to assess whether this fact is due to a voluntary decision (i.e. large reservation wages by immigrants) or to an involuntary process (i.e. low labor market evaluation of their skills). This is done by estimating the reservation wage for each individual in a sample of immigrant women in Ita…
