Unraveling the interconnectedness between physician burnout and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress: A network analysis among Chinese psychiatrists
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly increased the levels of burnout and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress among healthcare professionals. However, research on the interrelations between burnout and psychological symptoms is scarce, particularly among psychiatrists. This study addresses this gap in a national sample. Method: Data was collected via an online survey conducted in Mainland China from January to March 2021 with a …
Interconnected mental health symptoms: Network analysis of depression, anxiety, stress, and burnout among psychiatric nurses in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic
Burnout, depression, anxiety, and stress are relatively common among psychiatric nurses in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. While anxiety was the most prevalent, stress emerged as the core symptom, and depression as an important bridging node. Interventions targeting the core symptoms and bridging nodes may improve the mental health of psychiatric nurses
Alcohol misuse, health-related behaviors, and burnout among clinical therapists in China during the early Covid-19 pandemic: A Nationwide survey
Objectives: This study aimed to assess the extent of alcohol use and misuse among clinical therapists working in psychiatric hospitals in China during the early COVID-19 Pandemic, and to identify associated factors. Methods: An anonymous nationwide survey was conducted in 41 tertiary psychiatric hospitals. We collected demographic data as well as alcohol use using the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption (AUDIT-C) and burnout usi…
Gender differences in the associations between body mass index, depression, anxiety, and stress among endocrinologists in China
One-fourth of endocrinologists in China are overweight, with a rate in males nearly triple the one in females. Depression and anxiety are significantly associated with overweight in males but not females. This suggests possible differences in the mechanism. Our findings also highlight the need to screen depression and overweight in male physicians and the importance of developing gender-specific interventions
Non-suicidal self-injury in adolescents with mood disorders and the roles of self-compassion and emotional regulation
NSSI is prevalent among adolescent patients with mood disorders in clinical settings, especially among girls and those with lower levels of education and less cognitive reappraisal strategies. More clinical attention is needed. Self-compassion and its factors may mediate the association between emotional regulation and NSSI. Clinical implications and future research directions were discussed
Depression and anxiety among Macau residents during the Covid-19 outbreak: A network analysis perspective
Nearly half of residents in Macau experienced comorbid depression and anxiety during the 6.18 COVID-19 outbreak. Central and bridge symptoms identified in this network analysis are plausible, specific targets for treatment and prevention of comorbid depression and anxiety related to this outbreak
Prevalence of depression and its association with quality of life in patients after pacemaker implantation during the Covid-19 pandemic: A network analysis
Depression is common among patients having undergone pacemaker implantation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anxiety, central symptoms of depression (i.e., "Sad mood", "Poor Energy", and "Guilt") and depressive symptoms linked to QOL (i.e., "Sad mood", "Appetite", and "Fatigue") identified in this study are promising targets for interventions and preventive measures for depression in patients who have undergone pacemaker implants
Reduced suicidality after electroconvulsive therapy is linked to increased frontal brain activity in depressed patients: A resting-state fMRI study
Our findings suggest that the left SFG and OFC may play a key role in the mechanism of ECT for suicidality. The decrease of fALFF in the left SFG and OFC may represent a potential mechanism through which ECT effectively treats suicidality in depressed patients
The association between workload, alcohol use, and alcohol misuse among psychiatrists in China
Nearly half of the psychiatrists in China reported alcohol use and 8.1% had probable AUD. Alcohol consumption is significantly associated with several workload-related factors, such as long working hours, heavy caseload, and administrative duties. Alcohol misuse was inversely associated with the number of night shifts per month. While the direction of causality is unclear, our findings may help identify vulnerable professional groups and develop …
The cognitive effects of adjunctive repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for late-onset depression: A randomized controlled trial with 4 week follow-up
Treatment with 120% MT rTMS was associated with improvement in cognitive defects related to the active phase of LOD. These findings suggest that rTMS could provide early improvements in cognitive function in clinical settings for elderly patients with LOD. Clinical trial registration : https://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.html?proj=40698, identifier ChiCTR1900024445
Problematic Mobile Phone Use and Life Satisfaction Among University Students During the Covid-19 Pandemic in Shanghai, China
Objective: This study examined problematic mobile phone use (PMPU) and its relationship with life satisfaction in Chinese university students during the pandemic. Methods: An anonymous online survey was conducted in a university in China. The Mobile Phone Addiction Index (MPAI) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) were used to assess the severity of problematic mobile phone use and life satisfaction, respectively. Data on demographic and h…
Workplace Violence and Turnover Intention Among Psychiatrists in a National Sample in China: The Mediating Effects of Mental Health
Experience of WPV is a significant contributor to turnover intention among psychiatrists. Mental health status, such as burnout and stress level significantly mediated the association. Policy makers and hospital administrators need to be aware of this association. Action is needed to promote mental health among the psychiatrists to improve morale and workforce sustainability
Alcohol Use and Misuse Among Chinese Psychiatrists During the Early Covid-19 Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, alcohol use and misuse among Chinese psychiatrists declined. While males were more likely to misuse alcohol, they were also more likely to have reduced their intake. Age, location, and lifestyle factors also predicted alcohol use and misuse. Further examination of specific factors that reduced alcohol use and misuse may help guide public health efforts to sustain the lower rates beyond the pandemic
Characteristics of global retractions of schizophrenia-related publications: A bibliometric analysis
This study provides an insight into retractions of schizophrenia-related publications. Institutional governance should be further strengthened to improve the scrutiny of publications, prevent continuing citations, and erroneous propagation after retraction
Gender Differences in Job Satisfaction and Work-Life Balance Among Chinese Physicians in Tertiary Public Hospitals
Background: Gender has been associated with job-related experience, including job satisfaction and work-life balance. This study aimed to identify gender differences in job satisfaction and work-life balance among Chinese physicians in a large, nationally representative sample. Methods: A national cross-sectional survey was conducted between March 18 and 31, 2019, using an anonymous online questionnaire. The questionnaire included the short-form …

The Association Between Internet Addiction and Anxiety in Nursing Students: A Network Analysis
Background: Nursing students who suffer from co-occurring anxiety experience added difficulties when communicating and interacting with others in a healthy, positive, and meaningful way. Previous studies have found strong positive correlations between Internet addiction (IA) and anxiety, suggesting that nursing students who report severe IA are susceptible to debilitating anxiety as well. To date, however, network analysis (NA) studies exploring …
