Integrating initial fractal dimension with LightGBM for enhanced wildfire burned-area prediction
Traditional wildfire prediction models rely heavily on environmental variables, such as temperature, humidity, and vegetation indices, yet they often fail to capture the geometric complexity of the initial fire spread. This study introduces the Initial Fractal Dimension (IFD) derived from satellite-detected active fire masks during the first 72 h post-ignition as a novel predictor of burned areas. The IFD was calculated using an alpha-shaped boun…

Responses guide attention
Internalizing regularities between motor responses and stimuli is crucial for adaptive functioning. However, the influence of these regularities on attentional selection remains poorly understood. This study explored whether responses, which predict the locations of search targets, direct attention toward these associated locations, a phenomenon termed response-induced attention. The experiments consist of acquisition and test phases. In the acqu…
Risk Profile of Stalking in South Korea: Analyzing the First Year of Court Decisions Following Initial Legal Responses
South Korea implemented specific legislation titled the Act on Punishment of Crimes of Stalking ( APCS ) on October 21, 2021, to address the issue of stalking. This study evaluated the risks associated with stalking incidents in South Korea by reviewing and analyzing legal cases with finalized judgments within the first year of the APCS . Data were collected through a systematic search of the Korean Supreme Court’s Written Judgment Management Sys…
Health literacy disparities in South Korea: Insights from a latent profile analysis
The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to address the unique challenges faced by populations with low health literacy in a universal health coverage system such as that of South Korea. By identifying those at highest risk for low HLit and targeting policy measures accordingly, healthcare systems can allocate resources more effectively and make health information genuinely accessible for all. In doing so, such strategies can u…
Logistics and Military Alliances: Why No Nato in Asia
Alliance Politics and Missile Defense: Explaining US Missile Defense Deployments to Poland and the Republic of Korea
The relevant literature on missile defense is limited in that it primarily consists of policy-oriented prescriptive studies that support or oppose the deployment of missile defense in a host country. To address this deficiency, the current research compares two controversial cases of US missile defense deployment in Poland and the Republic of Korea. A theoretical framework is developed based on the alliance security dilemma to explain why certain…

The Decision-Making Process of Humanitarian Interventions: Presidential-Congressional Relations and U.S. Interventions in Libya and Syria
