  • A conceptual framework for measuring AI health equity

Open Access•Basile Njei, Ulrick Sidney Kanmounye et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2026

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly embedded in health systems globally and has the potential to improve efficiency, diagnostic accuracy, and decision support. However, its benefits remain unevenly distributed, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Models developed using datasets from specific populations may perform poorly in other settings, reinforcing structural inequities rather than correcting them. O…

  • Historical determinants of neurosurgical inequities in Africa and the African diaspora

    Open Access•Ernest J Barthélemy, Sylviane A Diouf et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2023

The movement to decolonize global health challenges clinicians and researchers of sub-disciplines, like global neurosurgery, to redefine their field. As an era of racial reckoning recentres the colonial roots of modern health disparities, reviewing the historical determinants of these disparities can constructively inform decolonization. This article presents a review and analysis of the historical determinants of neurosurgical inequities as unde…

  • Voices beyond the Operating Room

Open Access•Desmond T Jumbam, Ulrick Sidney Kanmounye et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2022

This study was designed to examine the effect of calcitonin gene related peptide on gastric acid secretion in the rat. Calcitonin gene related peptide (1 pmol-1 nmol/rat) injected intravenously inhibited basal gastric acid secretion in awake, freely moving rats. Calcitonin gene related peptide decreased gastric secretion stimulated by histamine, pentagastrin, or bethanecol in anaesthetised rats. The inhibitory effect was immediate and most pronou…
