  • The Boundary of Chinese Music

Ivan Yifan Zou, Yaching Tsai et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Chinese Literature and…•2022•References: 3

Reform and innovation toward the Western standards have been a perennial theme in the modern history of Chinese music. However, reformers can be easily overwhelmed by various details, to the point that the most fundamental question, What is Chinese music?, is often obscured. In a sense, we have to define the boundary of Chinese music to determine what new elements should be integrated and what traditional features should be preserved. Chinese mus…

  • L2 proficiency predicts inhibitory ability in L1-dominant speakers

Open Access•Nga-Yan Hui, Mingyu Yuan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Aims and Objectives: Bilinguals reportedly perform better in tasks that require the suppression of interference because of the constant practice in linguistic inhibition. However, previous literature was largely based on comparisons of pure monolinguals and balanced bilinguals. Those in between the two extremes were rarely examined. This project aimed at studying whether the population who primarily speak in a first language with a different leve…

  • Evaluating Phylogenetic Trees by Matrix Decomposition

    Open Access•Sanzheng Qiao, Wei‐shu Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•1998•Cited by: 3•References: 1

In this paper we begin by examining two currently used methods which solve matrices of pairwise distances in terms of additive trees, one proposed by Fitch and Margoliash (1967) and the other proposed by Saitou and Nei (1987). Neither method is exhaustive in the sense that not all possible trees are tested to ensure that the best solution has been reached. We develop a method here which decomposes any unrooted binary tree with a specified topolog…
