First Application of Sedimentary Plant DNA Analysis in Reconstruction of the Holocene Vegetation in the Altai
This study presents a detailed comparison of plant community composition using both spore-pollen analysis and sedimentary DNA (sedaDNA) metabarcoding. The Holocene-age sediments from Lake Balyktukel (Ulagan Plateau, Altai Republic) were analyzed. The comparison revealed significant differences in the composition and proportion of dominant taxa, highlighting the distinct spatial coverage and sensitivity of each method. The sedaDNA analysis identif…
Mid-Holocene Environmental Conditions in the Altai Mountains
The paper discusses the results of the study of Middle Holocene paleorecords from lake-bottom sediment cores of the Altai lakes and adjacent areas. To reconstruct the climate and vegetation of the late Holocene, cores from lakes Maloye Yarovoye, Kuchuk, Tenga, Balyktukel, Igistukel, Kanas, and Khoton-Nur were analyzed. The middle Holocene of the Steppe Altai is characterized by a relatively high proportion of Pinus sylvestris pollen and a maximum…
