This article addresses matters relating to the role of empathy as a key element of visual narration in the creation and reception of prehistoric art (c. 40 000 BC – c. fifth century BC) and early ancient art (c. 900–700 BC) in Europe. Drawing on neuroaesthetics research, particularly that which concerns the behaviour of mirror neurons, a discussion is provided of the mechanisms underlying the interpretation of intentions as well as the developmen…
Neuroestetyka w badaniach sztuki pradziejowej. Ocena potencjału
The article aims to assess the potential of neuroaesthetics in the study of ornamentation, as well as the form and style of archaeological artefacts. Neuroaesthetics, as a research approach, suggests incorporating the mechanisms of human brain function into the analysis of art creation and perception. Rhyta and kernoi from the Domasław cemetery
Unique ceremonial vessels such as rhyta, kernoi and pseudokernoi were discovered in a cemetery from the Early Iron Age in Domasław (Poland). The appearance of such vessels proves that the societies of the Hallstatt culture adopted cultural ideas, feasting and drinking practises and offerings from the Mediterranean world. GC-MS analyses were carried out on five vessels and compared with pottery from the Domasław cemetery (74 samples) and the nearb…
Takie jak w rzeczywistości”. Obraz fotograficzny - obiektywne odwzorowanie czy subiektywna kreacja? Fotografia w badaniach archeologicznych
The article reviews the current state of knowledge on photography and the use of photographs in archaeological research. The discovery of photography was a breakthrough in the history of archaeology. Belief in realism of photography has led to it becoming the …

Ceramika malowana z wczesnej epoki żelaza vs. nowożytna ceramika biała. Rozważania o magii i o „odczarowaniu świata”
The article contrasts two chronologically distinct groups of artifacts: painted ceramics from the Hallstatt period and the so-called white ceramics, produced until the end of modernity. They are related by means of the technique of covering a bright surface with colorful patterns and the stylistic similarity of certain geometric motifs. However, the ideas behind creating these pictorial representations were completely different. In the article, p…

The tradition of pottery painting in the Upper Silesian-Lesser Polish regional group of the Lusatian culture in the Early Iron Age. The example of the cemetery at Dobrzeń Mały, Opole district
The idea of covering pottery with polychrome ornaments adopted from the Greek art of the Late Geometric period spread to almost every corner of Early Iron Age Europe, including some areas in present-day Poland. Painted pottery was manufactured in Middle Silesia and southern Greater Poland. Finds of painted vessels are recorded also in Upper Silesia, and a smaller number still, in Lesser Poland. The presented paper addresses painted pottery identi…

Późnośredniowieczne I Nowożytne Wyroby Szklane Ze Stanowiska Przy Ulicy Tokarskiej W Gdańsku
A Medieval Bishop's Palace in Milicz
As a result of the intensive development of multimedia 3D visualizations of various kinds of historically, artistically or scientifically valuable objects became standard at the beginning of the 21st century. What triggered the construction of three-dimensional visualizations was the will to protect the cultural heritage – especially historical monuments which are in ruins and exposed to further destruction – as well as the need to disseminate th…
