  • The Impact of Host-Country Supervisor Participation in Cross-Cultural Training on Expatriate Subordinate Outcomes

    Open Access•Abby Corrington, Stacey Turner-Steele et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•2024•References: 87

Using signaling theory (Spence, 1973) and leader-member exchange (LMX) theory (Dansereau et al., 1975), this study examines the effects of the participation of both host-country supervisors and expatriate subordinates in the same cross-cultural training on expatriate subordinates' outcomes abroad. We propose that host-country supervisor participation in training sends a favorable signal and improves the quality of the host-country supervisor-expa…

  • Seeing Is Believing

    Elisabeth R Silver, Linnea C Ng et al.•ARTICLE•Social Psychology•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 33

We investigate how visual cues in universities discourage women from pursuing STEM. We extend research on ambient sexism (i.e., witnessing sexist mistreatment of others) to include environmental cues that women do not belong. Men were pictured in STEM buildings (Pilot Study 1) and described in university-sponsored STEM news articles (Pilot Study 2) twice as often as women. In an experiment, undergraduate women who read about male scientists repor…

  • Expanding Research on Working Women More Globally

    Open Access•Allison M Traylor, Allison Traylor et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Issues•2020•Cited by: 7•References: 67

Despite numerous calls for more culturally diverse research on women and work, research continues to predominantly study Western and developed countries. In this article, we summarize 10 critical blindspots in existing research. These 10 blind spots are (1) a narrow conceptualization of what work means, (2) limited access to educational and training opportunities, (3) underexamined barriers to employment, (4) pay inequities and unpaid work, (5) d…

  • How Subtle Bias Infects the Law

Isabel Bilotta, Abby Corrington et al.•ARTICLE•Annual Review of Law and Social…•2019

This review describes the ways in which contemporary forms of prejudice and stereotypes, which are often subtle and unconscious, give rise to critical problems throughout the legal system. This summary highlights dominant themes and understudied issues at the intersection of legal and psychological research. Three areas of focus are considered: law enforcement (policing), legal decision making, and the legal profession. Recommendations for future…

  • America clearly is not ready for a female president

    Open Access•Abby Corrington, Michelle R Hebl et al.•ARTICLE•Equal Opportunities International•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 18

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to highlight the ways gender influenced the 2016 presidential election, as well as ways in which the USA might progress to become a more gender-egalitarian nation
