  • Impact of drought on cereal crop yields in the Savanna Region of Nigeria

Olufemi Sunday Durowoju, Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa et al.•ARTICLE•African Geographical Review•2023

This study examined the impact of drought indices on cereal crops in the Kaduna River Basin (KRB). The study showed positive relationships between crop yields and drought indices except for temperature which revealed negative correlations. The study further revealed that rainfall mostly influence crop yields followed by soil moisture and VCI. Analysis on Standardized Precipitation Index showed (r=0.907; p < 0.01), (r = 0.862; p < 0.01) and (r = 0…

  • An Evaluation of Flood Fatalities in Nigeria

Open Access•Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, Adebayo Oluwole Eludoyin et al.•ARTICLE•Weather, Climate, and Society•2022

Flood-induced fatalities are among the more poorly reported effects of flood disasters in many developing countries because of poor data inventory and management. Specific objectives of this study are to assess the spatial and temporal variations in flood fatalities in Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa. The study explored available datasets from the National (Nigerian) Meteorological and Emergency Management Agencies as well as those f…

  • An Assessment of Flood Vulnerability Zones in the Niger Delta, Nigeria

    Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2004

This study deals with an assessment of flood vulnerability zones in the Niger Delta region by using a hydrological technique based on some measurable physical characteristics of flooding and vulnerability factors. On the basis of these factors, 18 settlements randomly selected across the three ecological zones in the region were assessed. Three flood risk zones emerged from the analysis. These are severe flood risk zones, moderated flood risk zon…

  • A review of the effects of gas flaring on the Niger Delta environment

    Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2001

This paper is a review of studies on the impact of gas flaring on the Niger Delta environment. The Niger Delta region of Nigeria has suffered all forms of pollution and degradation arising from oil and natural gas exploitation. These include a decrease in agricultural yield, depression in flowering and fruiting in Okro and palm trees, deformities in children, liver damage and skin problems, increasing concentrations of airborne pollutants, acidif…
