  • Live birth sex ratios and father's geographic origins in Jerusalem, 1964–1976

Open Access•Justina Groeger, Mark Opler et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2017

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether ancestry influenced sex ratios of offspring in a birth cohort before parental antenatal sex selection influenced offspring sex. METHODS: We measured the sex ratio as the percent of males according to countries of birth of paternal and maternal grandfathers in 91,459 live births from 1964 to 1976 in the Jerusalem Perinatal Study. Confidence limits (CI) were computed based on an expected sex ratio of 1.05, which is 51.…

  • Breast feeding in Israel

    P Ever-Hadani, Daniel S Seidman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1994•Cited by: 4•References: 13

STUDY OBJECTIVES--To determine the influence of maternal characteristics on the incidence and duration of breast feeding. DESIGN--All the women who delivered in three obstetric wards within a two year period were surveyed. These three wards cover 93% of all births in the Jerusalem district. Women were interviewed on breast feeding of the previous child on the first or second day post partum by a research nurse. PARTICIPANTS--Altogether 8486 women…

  • Child-bearing after induced abortion

    Daniel S Seidman, P Ever-Hadani et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1988•Cited by: 1•References: 17

We reviewed 1791 singleton pregnancies of women with a history of previous induced abortion and compared them with 14,857 pregnancies in mothers with no previous induced abortions. Therapeutic termination of pregnancy was associated with a statistically significant increase in the incidence of low birth weight infants and bleeding in the first trimester of pregnancy. When other variables were examined, no significant differences were found betwee…

  • Ectopic pregnancies

Patricia H Shiono, Susan Harlap et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1982•Cited by: 1•References: 9

In a population of about 300,000 Northern California women aged 15--44, the age-adjusted incidence of ectopic pregnancy rose from 55.5 to 84.2/100,000 women, 1972--1978. The ratio of ectopics to 1,000 deliveries-plus-spontaneous abortions rose from 9.4 to 14.8. The change occurred mainly in women under age 30, and was observed in seven of the eight hospitals in the area. There was no alteration in the frequency of hospitalized pelvic inflammatory…

  • A multiple regression analysis of admission of infants to hospital. A report from the Jerusalem perinatal study

    Susan Harlap, N N Stenhouse et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1973•References: 1

In Jerusalem, the rate of admission of infants to hospital is probably the highest in the world. More than 18 % of babies enter hospital at least once before their first birthday, and some are admitted several times, so that the rate of hospitalization episodes is over 26 % of live births (Bentwich, 1970). The peak risk is at 3-6 months of age when 88 % of episodes are for gastroenteritis or respiratory disease. Towards the end of the first year,…
