A poetics of “Wind in a Box”
This essay is a re-application of the language codes of Roland Barthes and Jonathan Culler’s concept for Structuralist Poetics. The approach I use explores the codes demonstrated in Barthes’ well-known text, S/Z with slight modifications for their application to poetry. The concepts borrowed from Mr. Culler are from his book of the same title: Structuralist Poetics: Structuralism, Linguistics and the Study of Literature (Cornell University Press,…
Ground of a Theory: The Language Codes of Roland Barthes and American Critical Structuralism
This paper is an application of Johnathan Culler's Structuralist Poetics from 1975 combined with the language codes of Roland Barthes which he developed in his study of S/Z to the close reading of poetry. Culler's main argument is that there must be another strategy combined with all major approaches in Structuralist thought in that time period
Adaptive Radiation in the Australopithecines and the Origin of Man
This chapter explores to speculate about the selective forces which brought the australopithecine group into existence, caused adaptive radiation within the group, and resulted in the origin of man. Adaptive radiation cannot be discussed fruitfully if it is not clear what categories are involved in the group concerned; indeed whether adaptive radiation has actually occurred must first be decided by taxonomic analysis. Some adaptive radiation in e…
Adaptive Radiation in The Australopithecines and The Origin of Man
This chapter speculates about the selective forces which brought the australopithecine group into existence, caused adaptive radiation within the group, and resulted in the origin of man. The literature also contains many statements that such and such are Australopithecine characteristics as though all known Australopithecines have the same characteristics. South African Australopithecines are divided into two taxa, Australopithecus africanus Dar…
Man, Morals and Metaevolution
This paper speculates on a new form of evolution that suggests that the way man evolves is essentially different from that of all other forms of animals or plants. It is postulated that evolution has proceeded through three phases, and that mankind is moving into phase IV with additional phases possible. Phase I consists of the systematic changes seen in the origin of the universe through physico‐chemical evolution. Phase II is that in which livi…
