Open Access•Joshua J Knabb, Joseph Pelletier et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychology and Theology•2014

The authors utilized structural equation modeling (SEM) to explore the relationship between orthodox Christian beliefs, experiential avoidance, and self-sacrificial Christian behaviors among adults at a religiously-affiliated university. Results revealed that lower experiential avoidance was linked to more orthodox Christian beliefs, which, in turn, was related to more self-sacrificial Christian behaviors, similar to the acceptance and commitment…

  • “A Cord of Three Strands is Not Easily Broken”: An Empirical Investigation of Attachment-Based Small Group Functioning in the Christian Church

Open Access•Joshua J Knabb, Joseph Pelletier et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychology and Theology•2014

In this study, the authors explored the relationship between adult attachment, church-based small group attachment, psychological functioning, faith maturity, God attachment, and Christian orthodoxy among a sample of Christian adults in Southern California (N = 138). The authors hypothesized that insecure church-based small group attachment would be positively associated with psychological maladjustment and insecure God attachment, and negatively…

  • The relationship between problematic Internet use, God attachment, and psychological functioning among adults at a Christian university

Joshua J Knabb, Joseph Pelletier et al.•ARTICLE•Mental Health Religion & Culture•2014

In the present study, we utilised structural equation modelling (SEM) to investigate the relationship between God attachment and problematic Internet use, mediated by emotional distress. Findings supported the proposed hypothesis that anxious God attachment (i.e., anxiety about God's abandonment) predicts both problematic Internet use (i.e., obsessing about the Internet, neglecting tasks and relationships due to the Internet, struggling to contro…

  • Effects of Parental Divorce on God Image Among Young Adults at a Christian University

    Joshua J Knabb, Joseph Pelletier et al.•ARTICLE•Marriage & Family Review•2013•References: 18

We used path analysis to investigate the impact of parental divorce on God image, mediated by father–child and mother–child attachments, among 178 college students at a Christian university. Findings revealed that parental divorce negatively impacts father–child attachment; however, father–child attachment does not impact God image. Instead, the quality of mother–child attachment, which does not seem to be influenced by parental divorce, best pre…

  • Prospects for Group Processes and Intergroup Relations Research: A Review of 70 Years' Progress

Open Access•Georgina Randsley De Moura, Tirza Leader et al.•ARTICLE•Group Processes & Intergroup…•2008

Three archival analyses are presented substantially extending empirical reviews of the progress of group-related research. First, an analysis of social psychological research from 1935 to 2007 (cf. Abrams & Hogg, 1998) showed that group-related research has a steadily increasing proportion of titles in the principal journals and currently accounts for over a sixth of all the research in our list of social psychological journals. Second, analysis …
