A prototype analysis of divine forgiveness
The Divine Forgiveness Questionnaire: Developing and validating a measure of the experience of God’s forgiveness across the abrahamic religions
Who believes in a just world? A multilevel latent profile analysis of Justice Capital using the European Social Survey
OBJECTIVE: Justice Capital provides a theoretical framework for explaining individual differences in the belief in a just world (BJW). However, this framework has yet to receive empirical validation. METHOD: Using Round 9 of the European Social Survey, a large (n = 43,209) multi-country (N = 29) sample, I conduct multilevel latent profile analysis and multilevel multinomial logistic regression to determine the latent profiles that emerge at a pop…
A fair go? How belief in a just world shaped attitudes, intentions, and behaviors before and after the Australian referendum on a First Nations voice to parliament
In October 2023, Australia voted on whether to enshrine in the constitution an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander “Voice” to Parliament. Debate around the Voice raised questions of justice and deservingness for a marginalized group within Australian society. The belief in a just world, the perception of fairness in this world for others (BJW‐other) and the self (BJW‐self), was, therefore, central to how people formed and expressed their opinio…
Does the Empowering Function of the Belief in a Just World Generalise? Broad-base Cross-sectional and Longitudinal Evidence
The empowering function of the belief in a just world for the self (BJW-self) has been suggested as one mechanism by which BJW-self promotes positive psychological functioning for the individual. In this investigation we seek to understand if this empowerment function generalises to a broad range of positive and negative psychological variables and whether the function can be observed outside of tightly controlled experimental designs. We use a m…
The Empowering Function of the Belief in a Just World for the Self: Trait-Level and Experimental Tests of Its Association With Positive and Negative Affect
Belief in a just world for the self (BJW-self) is a resource that promotes adaptive functioning. We theorize that BJW-self has such an effect because it is empowering. This article reports on four studies ( N = 967) testing whether BJW-self encourages more positive and less negative affect indirectly through empowerment. There was support for this hypothesis at a trait level across all studies, and specifically in Study 1. Experimental evidence, …
Cross-cultural generalisability of the belief in a just world: Factor analytic and psychometric evidence from six countries
Belief in a just world, perceived control, perceived risk, and hopelessness during the Covid-19 pandemic: Findings from a globally diverse sample
Using a Technology-Based Meaning and Purpose Intervention to Improve Well-being: A Randomised Controlled Study
A systematic review and meta-analysis of psychological interventions to improve mental wellbeing
National Trends and Policy Impacts on Provision of Home Medicines Reviews and Residential Medication Management Reviews in Older Australians, 2009–2019
Comprehensive medicines reviews such as Home Medicines Review (HMR) and Residential Medication Management Review (RMMR) can resolve medicines-related problems. Changes to Australia's longstanding HMR and RMMR programs were implemented between 2011 and 2014. This study examined trends in HMR and RMMR provision among older Australians during 2009-2019 and determined the impact of program changes on service provision. Monthly rates of general medica…
The adaptive, approach-oriented correlates of belief in a just world for the self: A review of the research
