  • Toward a Theological Ethic of Creaturely Listening

    Open Access•Daniela Rizzo•ARTICLE•Religions•2026

Advances in artificial intelligence are creating new possibilities for interpreting the communicative lives of non-human animals, prompting fresh ethical and theological questions about how such technologies ought to be received. This article develops a theological ethic of creaturely listening, arguing that the significance of AI-assisted animal communication lies less in its technical capabilities than in the moral formation it demands of those…

  • Challenges and Multidisciplinary Approaches for Cultural Heritage Information Management

Open Access•Mattia Mangia, Carla di Biccari et al.•ARTICLE•Heritage•2026

Cultural Heritage (CH) is becoming increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, aging, and environmental decay, necessitating advanced preventive conservation strategies. This study presents the results of the SPIDER project, focused on Marquis’s Palace in Botrugno, a small but representative case study in Southern Italy of a municipality overwhelmed with the management of valuable CH sites. The approach integrates multi-sensor surve…

  • The Spirit and “All Flesh”

    Daniela Rizzo•ARTICLE•Journal of Animal Ethics•2026

This article explores the Holy Spirit's baptizing work on “all flesh,” extending to animals and shaping an inclusive pneumatic soteriology for all nonhuman creatures. While current animal theologies predominantly focus on Christological aspects of soteriology, I leverage Frank Macchia's pneumatological framework to extend “deep incarnation,” expanding our understanding of the Spirit's role in the lives of animals. Transitioning to incarnational p…

  • Animal Glossolalia

    Daniela Rizzo•ARTICLE•Pneuma•2024

This article extends the concept of glossolalia to encompass the idea of creaturely “sighs and groans,” emphasizing that animals, despite the apparent absence of reflective consciousness, harbor the capacity for expressions such as praise, lament, and prophecy. Within this research, a model of “animal glossolalia” is introduced, transcending the confines of human experience to delve into how animals engage in this unique form of spiritual express…

  • The Word Made Flesh and the Spirit's Breath

    Open Access•Daniela Rizzo•ARTICLE•Religions•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 3

This paper proposes a synthesis of Christological and pneumatological insights to present a more inclusive vision of creation's role in divine worship and redemption. While deep incarnation emphasizes Christ's identification with all of creation, this study extends the discussion by incorporating the Spirit's ongoing work through the framework of animal glossolalia. Nonhuman creatures are seen not merely as passive recipients of Christ's redempti…

  • Analytical investigation of the original painted canvas of Santa Irene , by Giuseppe Verrio (Church of Sant'Irene, Lecce, Italy)

    Open Access•Daniela Rizzo, Raffaele Casciaro•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2022

The object of this study is unusual for both its material and technique. It is an oil painting on sheets of paper glued to a canvas made of linen fibres, thereby showing some execution peculiarities. It depicts the Virgin of Thessalonica in a hieratic attitude. The painting is attributed to the Salento‐born artist Giuseppe Verrio (1639) for the church of the Theatine religious Order in Lecce, Italy, in which it is still placed, on the left altar …

  • Characterization of Materials and Artistic Techniques on Two 17th‐Century Neapolitan Wood Sculptures

Open Access•Daniela Fico, Marianna Faraco et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 23

Two sculptures of Gaetano Patalano, one of the most important Italian sculptors of the late 17th century, were analysed to study the stratigraphy, the organic and inorganic materials, and to distinguish the original layers from the repaintings. Samples taken from the Immacolata Concezione and from San Gaetano da Thiene (Santa Chiara church, Lecce, Italy) were studied by optical microscopy, μ‐Raman spectroscopy and Py‐GC–MS. Different binders and …
