This is an accepted article with a DOI pre-assigned that is not yet published.Quantitative tools for evaluating energy justice allow users to make comparisons across options quickly. Most of these tools overrepresent distributional justice, however, at the expense of other dimensions that are more difficult to measure (e.g., procedural, recognition, and reparative justice). Although funding, time, and an openness to incorporating qualitative know…

  • Bodily excess and the practice of wonder in sexuality education

Leah Marion Roberts, Christine Labuski et al.•ARTICLE•Sex Education•2023

The concept of excess is often used to exclude or render deviant marginalised individuals and groups, reifying hegemonic structures of control and domination. Feminists and other critical scholars, however, have utilised the concept of excess to resist such normalising efforts. In conversation with these critical scholars, this paper advances the concept of bodily excess as a tool for reimagining the project(s) of sexuality education towards capa…

In 26 gripping and provocative installations, the new and updated volume showcases research from influential feminist and decolonial scholars. • Pluralizing energy justice

    Open Access•B K Sovacool, Shannon Bell et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Research & Social Science•2023•Cited by: 31•References: 34

Justice represents not only a moral obligation but can enhance the legitimacy and acceptance of a rapid push toward global decarbonization. Innovations in technology, even those geared toward sustainability, can both reinforce and introduce new inequalities and disparities across populations, while also perpetuating environmental degradation. The concept of energy justice has emerged as a conceptual, methodological, and empirical tool to both hig…

  • Weeding Out the Weak

    Open Access•Christine M Labuski•ARTICLE•Journal of Contemporary Ethnography•2023•References: 22

COVID-19 has radically reshaped the labor dreams of many U.S. workers. This essay uses pre-pandemic fieldwork in an oil and gas “boomtown” to consider post-work imaginaries in the wake and midst of COVID-19. I use feminist and disability studies perspectives to argue that economic analyses must not only move beyond the discourse of “jobs” but must also attend to gender-based and ableist modes of discrimination that persist even in so-called boomi…

    Open Access•Philip Olson, Philip R Olson et al.•ARTICLE•Social Studies of Science•2018•Cited by: 6•References: 6

In 2014, the United States Federal Aviation Administration chose six sites at which to conduct research crucial to integrating unmanned aircraft systems into the nation's airspace. Analyzing data collected from five focus groups that we conducted at one of these test sites, this article centers on the gendered and racialized politics of civilian unmanned aircraft. Civilian drone use remains a relatively unchallenged space for displaying hypermasc…

  • The (Mis)Measure of Trans

    Christine M Labuski, Colton L Keo-Meier•ARTICLE•TSQ Transgender Studies Quarterly•2015•Cited by: 6•References: 16

This essay considers the utility of research questions that articulate aspects of transgender lives to the nontransgender populations with whom they share a wide range of bodily and lived experience. By foregrounding transgender's instability as a research variable, the authors argue for more precise methodological orientations in trans research, particularly regarding gender and sexual orientation. Drawing on their own data with trans men whose …
