本文著重分析明代小說家馮夢龍的〈蔣興哥重會珍珠衫 所表 現的沖突和妥協,特別是常被忽略的小說的第二部分。中國古 典文學中婦女有兩種類型,一類雖然美麗出衆,但不爲社會和 大家庭所容,因爲她們只代表情愛;另一類則是社會和大家庭 所接受的,因爲她們代表社會責任。這種矛盾心態表現在牛郎 織女的神話中。在某些傳說中,織女與牛郎一結合就忽視其社 會責任;他們的所做所爲以他們的情愛受到限制而告終。不同 類型的女性在織女身上得到了統一。這些母題貫穿了馮夢龍的 作品的始終。作者認爲,小說中的四個主要人物分別爲牛郎與 織女的重像,他們每人均代表古代男女的一種類型。其中,兩 女性可以說是一個復合的織女,兩位男性是一個復合的牛郎。 小說作者通過這種方法使矛盾達到最大限度的妥協
