  • Y-Chromosome Evidence for Differing Ancient Demographic Histories in the Americas

Open Access•Maria Cátira Bortolini, Maria-Cátira Bortolini et al.•ARTICLE•The American Journal of Human…•2003

  • Genetic diversity of two African and sixteen South American populations determined on the basis of six hypervariable loci

Open Access•Wilson Ara jo Da Silva, Wilson Arajo Da Silva et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1999

A total of 582 individuals (1,164 chromosomes) from two African, eight African-derived South American, five South American Amerindian, and three Brazilian urban populations were studied at four variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) and two short tandem repeat (STR) hypervariable loci. These two sets of loci did not show distinct allele profiles, which might be expected if different processes promoted their molecular differentiation. The two Afr…

  • Restriction and persistence of polymorphisms of HLA and other blood genetic traits in the Parakanã Indians of Brazil

    Open Access•Francis L Black, Francisco M Salzano et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1980

Results concerning HLA types and 22 other blood genetic systems are reported for the Parakanã Indians of northern Brazil, a tribe that is notable for the light color and pilosity of some of its members. No clear evidence of Caucasoid admixture was found, but the Parkanã show unusual frequencies in the EsD 1 , PGM 1 1 , Gc 2 , Cp B , Fy a , Di a , and L M genetic markers. In addition, the very rare Rh allele r y is present, as well as what seems t…
