  • Effect of behavioral interventions on contraceptive use among women living with HIV

Open Access•Michael Deynu, Jerry John Ouner et al.•ARTICLE•Reproductive Health•2026

  • Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences

Open Access•Julianne Ballard, Ifeyinwa V Asiodu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Transcultural Nursing•2026

INTRODUCTION: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with negative health and developmental outcomes, which can persist across generations. Home visitation is a key strategy to support families impacted by ACEs. Yet, evidence-based home visitation models may not fully capture the complexities, including culture, involved in preventing intergenerational ACEs. METHODS: Using a critical narrative review approach, data were extracted fro…

  • The Lived Experiences of Lesbian-Identified Black Women Navigating Sexual and Reproductive Health Care

    Open Access•Daphne Scott-Henderson, Linda S Franck et al.•ARTICLE•Health Equity•2025

Background: Few research studies have focused on the sexual and reproductive health care (SRH) experiences of Black women who identify as lesbian or gay compared with studies on lesbian-identified White women or heterosexual-identified Black women. Black women who identify as lesbian or gay may have different SRH needs and concerns than Black heterosexual women. This scoping review extracts, synthesizes, and interprets relevant qualitative and qu…

  • Advancing Health Equity in Pediatric Primary Care

    Open Access•Kayla L Karvonen, Hope Williams-Burt et al.•ARTICLE•Health Equity•2025

Health is a fundamental human right and families deserve health equity, a state where all children have the opportunity to reach their full health potential. Black families and children are disproportionately burdened with racial inequities in morbidity and mortality. Although evidence supports racially concordant care and wraparound pediatric primary services to address racial inequities, there remains a significant gap in developing and evaluat…

  • Virtual Research Prioritization

    Open Access•Margaret W Gichane, Ifeyinwa V Asiodu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024•References: 26

Involving communities in research prioritization is an important component of developing relevant research, policy, and healthcare questions. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has led to an increased need for research prioritization methods which align with public health protections. The Research Prioritization by Affected Communities (RPAC) protocol is a participatory method which directly involves historically excluded communitie…

  • Automating Racism

Open Access•Nicholas Rubashkin, Ifeyinwa V Asiodu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Racial and Ethnic…•2024•References: 30

Objective The clinical application of race-adjusted algorithms may perpetuate health inequities. We assessed the impact of the vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) calculator, which was revised in 2021 to address concerns about equity. The original algorithm factored race and ethnicity and gave lower VBAC probabilities to Black and Hispanic patients. Methods From 2019 to 2020, we conducted a multi-site, ethnographic study consisting of interviews …

  • She should support me, she's my doctor

    Open Access•Lavanya Rao, Corinne H Rocca et al.•ARTICLE•Perspectives on Sexual and…•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 8

Most participants were aware of their agency during contraceptive visits and how it varied in different experiences with providers and the healthcare system. Patient perspectives can help to inform measurement development and ultimately the delivery of care that supports contraceptive agency

  • Racial Disparities in Donor Human Milk Feedings

    Open Access•Aunchalee E L Palmquist, R D Casa et al.•ARTICLE•Health Equity•2022

Inequities in exclusive human milk feeding and use of PDHM by maternal race-ethnicity were identified. Antiracist interventions are needed to promote equitable access to skilled lactation support and counseling for PDHM use

  • Reflecting on Equity in Perinatal Care During a Pandemic

    Open Access•Paulomi Niles, P Mimi Niles et al.•ARTICLE•Health Equity•2020

Growing discourse around maternity care during the pandemic offers an opportunity to reflect on how this crisis has amplified inequities in health care. We argue that policies upholding the rights of birthing people, and policies decreasing the risk of COVID-19 transmission are not mutually exclusive. The explicit lack of standardization of evidence-based maternity care, whether expressed in clinical protocols or institutional policy, has disprop…
