Greek Standardization of the Situational Triggers of Aggressive Responses (STAR GR )
Aggressive traits and situational factors interact to influence the propensity for aggressive behavior. Individuals’ sensitivity to the situational factors' provocation and frustration are assessed by the Situational Triggers of Aggressive Responses (STAR) scale subscales sensitivity to provocation (SP) and sensitivity to frustration (SF). The aims of this paper were to (1) briefly summarize the basic theory supporting the STAR scale, (2) review …
Υoung Adults’ Assertiveness in Relation to Parental Acceptance-Rejection in Greece and in Bosnia and Herzegovina

An examination of Alternative Multidimensional Scaling Techniques
The purpose of this study is to compare alternative multidimensional scaling (MDS) methods for constraining the stimuli on the circumference of a circle and on the surface of a sphere. Specifically, the existing MDS-T method for plotting the stimuli on the circumference of a circle is applied, and its extension is proposed for constraining the stimuli on the surface of a sphere. The data analyzed come from previous research and concerns Maslach a…
Bias in Terms of Culture and a Method for Reducing It
Several sources of bias can plague research data and individual assessment. When cultural groups are considered, across or even within countries, it is essential that the constructs assessed and evaluated are as free as possible from any source of bias and specifically from bias caused due to culturally specific characteristics. Employing the Explanations of Unemployment Scale (revised form) for a sample of 1,894 employed and unemployed adults ac…
Development and Psychometric Properties of the Scale for Self-Consciousness Assessment
This scale development employed Duval and Wicklund's (1972), Carver's (1979), and Zaborowski's (1987) theories on self-consciousness. The aim of the study was to create a new method to assess the self-consciousness construct, in an effort to operationally express self-consciousness, while circumventing existing metric and other impediments. Initially, 38 pilot interviews were conducted with undergraduate psychology students, and two studies follo…
Political and religious group membership, value priorities and educational values
Value priorities and educational value patterns are explored in respect to university students’ active membership to religious and political groups. The sample was 117 students of the University of Athens, Greece, with 39 of them being active members of Christian Orthodox religious groups, 34 active members of political groups or unions, and 44 students acting as the ‘control’ group, since they were not members of such religious or political grou…
Acculturation of Greek Family Values
This article brings together two areas of current interest in cross-cultural psychology: acculturation and values. Specifically, to what extent do the values held by individuals change as they undergo the experience of acculturation? The cross-cultural study of values frequently examines a broad array of values, but the present study focuses on Greek family values because family is a central cultural institution. Because policies of the host soci…
