Stability and Change in Abilities for a Sample of Young Adults
The Ball Aptitude Battery, a multiple ability test battery, was administered to 121 young adults at age 18 and readministered at age 22. Test-retest correlations for individual tests ranged from .30 to .90, the highest coefficients (r tt s above .75) being observed on tests measuring (a) vocabulary, (b) hand and arm strength, (c) spatial ability, and (d) detail perception. Significant growth in ability (positive change scores) was observed on tes…
The Validity of the Ball Aptitude Battery (BAB)
The present study examined the relationships between the Ball Aptitude Battery (BAB) and three other aptitude test batteries: Comprehensive Ability Battery, Differential Aptitude Tests, and General Aptitude Test Battery. Results showed what was judged to be adequate convergent and discriminant validities for all BAB tests except for Inductive Reasoning, which was factorially complex
Recovery of One- and Two-Parameter Logistic Item Parameters
Response data from 3,000 subjects to the SRA Attitude Survey (SRA, 1974) were analyzed using the one-parameter and two-parameter logistic latent trait models. The effects of varying sample size on the accuracy of estimating of person and item parameters were investigated. For both models, ability parameter estimates for all sample sizes (N = 1,000, 500, and 250) were nearly perfectly correlated with population ability parameters. For the item dif…
The Validity of the Ball Aptitude Battery (BAB)
The Ball Foundation, Glen Ellyn, Illinois A number of studies describing the utility of the Ball Aptitude Battery (BAB) is presented. These studies, all of which were of the concurrent type (i.e., predictor and criterion data having been obtained at the same time), were conducted with carpenters (N = 184), horticulturists (N = 133), certified public accountants (N = 42), production workers (N = 67), and school teachers (N = 69). Validity coeffici…
