IIR filter scaling for real-time signal processing
Students generally have difficulty implementing infinite impulse response filters (IIR) using fixed-point arithmetic. Most of the trouble is with amplitude scaling the filter and representing the coefficients in the fixed-point format. The authors present a systematic procedure for scaling a second-order IIR filter which is used as the basic building block of higher-order filters. A simple simulation program is used to estimate the size of the si…
A senior project course in digital signal processing with the TMS320
A senior project course on applications in digital signal processing (DSP) with the TMS320 digital signal processor is described. All experiments and projects are performed using Texas Instruments' TMS320 digital signal processor. The laboratory emphasis in the senior project course reinforces the concepts of DSP covered in the lecture course. Applications in DSP are in areas such as communications, controls, speech, graphics, etc. The DSP projec…
A Course in Microprocessors Based on the 16/32 Bit 68000 ??P
A junior year, second semester course in microprocessors (??P) was developed in the Computer Engineering Area at Roger Williams College in the Spring, 1984. A hands-on approach was emphasized, and many experiments were performed in conjunction with the popular Motorola Educational Computer Board (ECB) with a 68090 ??P to provide the students experiences in software and hardware interfacing. A final project required design, testing, and presentati…
