Free and servants
This study investigates the erosion of academic freedom in neoliberal universities, focusing on the concept of “voluntary servitude” as a mechanism through which academics actively, albeit unconsciously, contribute to their own subjugation. Moving beyond an individual perspective, the work examines how shared affective dynamics, such as collusion, perpetuate this condition. Drawing on a qualitative study with Italian academics in the WOP field, t…
Beyond Neutrality, Normalization, and Complicity at Times of the Genocide
We have been witnessing the perpetuation of violent and cruel aggression against the Palestinian people by Israel. At the international level, there have been sparse individual or collective initiatives within the field of psychology to demonstrate solidarity with Palestine and against the genocide in Gaza, yet the question of Palestine remains ambiguous, and the possible stance of psychology as a research field and scientific institution on the …
Enhancing workplace research through a radically reflexive video-tour
Purpose This study aims to explore the value of video-based ethnography, particularly the video-tour technique, in investigating and transforming contemporary workspaces, with a focus on coworking environments. Coworking spaces are dynamic, shared workplaces that serve diverse functions and are constantly evolving. Given their complexity, more participative and transformational research approaches are needed to understand their impact and engage …
Embracing differences in organizations
The paper presents an expansion of the perspective on 'differences' by proposing a novel theoretical concept: 'differences work'. Differences work is the subjective and intersubjective effort that is put in place to approach differences from a dynamic stance, to encompass the different processes – identity, relational, and cultural – intertwined in experiencing ourselves and the relationship with differences. The concept is illustrated in its cog…
What drives young workers? Person‐organization fit‐in identity motives—A mixed‐method study
Person‐organization fit theory is among the most productive theoretical frameworks used to assess the relationship between an organization and its employees. Nevertheless, the P‐O fit literature has often limited its scope to the evaluation of P‐O fit in the values domain, overlooking P‐O fit‐in needs. This study addresses this issue under the motivated identity construction theory (MICT, Vignoles, Handbook of identity theory and research , New Y…
Invisible walls within multidisciplinary teams
Reflexivity in practice
In this article, we build on the results of a participatory action research project in healthcare to discuss a number of methods that can strengthen the link between reflexive work and authoring in organizational contexts. We argue that, from an organizational point of view, the challenge is to devise new ways to configure (and consider) people as the authors of their work. This means assuming responsibility for, and constructively contributing t…
Exploring the practice of patient centered care
A multi‐method approach for looking inside healthcare practices
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore a specific multi‐method approach with which to detect and analyze professional practices in order to support organizational reflection and change. Design/methodology/approach Based on a case study, the paper describes the methodological choices made during the research process. The qualitative potentials of narrative and ethnographic orientations, and a package of data gathering tools, are analyzed …
