Desde 2012, un equipo interdisciplinar ha afrontado el estudio de la topografía urbana y del territorio de la antigua civitas Igaeditanorum que pertenecía a la provincia romana de Lusitania. El yacimiento fue excavado en la segunda mitad del pasado s. XX por el arqueólogo portugués Fernando de Almeida.
