A Hypothetical Reconstruction of The Lost Qur’anic Commentary of Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī (D. 911/1505) (Part 2): The Text of Majmaʻ al-Baḥrayn wa Maṭlaʻ al-Badrayn
Although no manuscript of al-Suyūṭī’s (d. 911/1505) unfinished Majmaʻ al-Baḥrayn wa Maṭlaʻ al-Badrayn is currently known to survive, al-Suyūṭī himself identifies it as a major project intended to bring together the transmitted and rational dimensions of Qurʼānic interpretation. Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover: Chronologically Reading Ibn ‘Atiyyah’s Interpretation of the Zakāh Passages

The macro-analysis is carried out by approaching al-Muḥarrar as a commentary that gath…

This article deals with two scholarly tafsīr books circulating throughout modern Indonesia: Husein Qadri’s (1906-1966) “Senjata Mukmin” (The Weapons of the Believers) and Agus Purwanto’s (b. 1964) “Nalar Ayat-Ayat Semesta” (Reasoning of the Verses of the Universe). Qadri, representing his position as Muslim scholar, and Purwanto, as Muslim intellectual, contribute to the shaping of lay exegesis in their country. I conclude that although the two w…
