  • Jeremiah, Joseph, and the Dynamics of Analogy

David Andrew Teeter, David Teeter•ARTICLE•Hebrew Bible and Ancient Israel•2021

This study demonstrates how and why the depiction of the life of the prophet Jeremiah and his contemporaries in Jeremiah 37-44 displays systematic and thoroughgoing analogical correspondences to the Joseph Story in Genesis 37-50. These correspondences prove to represent a strategic part of a larger set of relationships to the Joseph Story found throughout the broader composition of the book of Jeremiah as a whole, as well as in the book of Kings.…

  • Standards of (In)coherence in Ancient Jewish Literature

David Andrew Teeter, William A Tooman•ARTICLE•Hebrew Bible and Ancient Israel•2020

Besseres lässt sich von einem Verfassungskommentar nicht sagen.“ Herbert Günther Staaatsanzeiger für das Land Hessen 2018 (50), 1494–1495

David Andrew Teeter examines the nature and background of deliberate scribal changes in the texts and versions of biblical law during the late Second Temple period. He offers a descriptive typology and detailed analysis of the attested textual variants and their place within the multi-faceted interpretive encounter with scripture in the late Second Temple period

  • Textgeschichte, Fortschreibung, und Rechtshermeneutik

David Andrew Teeter, David Teeter•ARTICLE•Hebrew Bible and Ancient Israel•2013

This article argues for the importance of considering extant textual variation in connection with inner-literary processes of development (redaction, Fortschreibung, inner-biblical exegesis), as well as in light of the broader history of interpretation. The textual plus at Leviticus 17:4, preserved in several ancient witnesses, represents a classic case that has received very mixed evaluation, both with regard to its textual status (whether prima…
