  • Inner Asian Agropastoralism Within the Mongol Empire: Multi‐Proxy Investigations at Sel'Ungur Cave, Kyrgyzstan

Open Access•Greta Brancaleoni, Svetlana Shnaider et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 13

Agropastoralism has been a widespread subsistence strategy in Central Asia from prehistory to the present. While significant research has aimed at understanding past agropastoral communities in the region, reconstructing a generalized economic model remains challenging due to the complex topographic and ecological conditions, as well as its social and political variability. It is likely that subsistence strategies were flexible and adapted to loc…

  • New Data for Asymmetric Core Reduction in Western Tian Shan Piedmonts: The Ertash Sai 2 Open-Air Site

    M Kot, A Kogai et al.•ARTICLE•Lithic Technology•2024•Cited by: 3•References: 5

This study describes a multi-proxy approach toward a newly discovered open-air loess site, Ertash Sai 2, located in the western piedmonts of the Tian Shan in Uzbekistan. Technological analyzes enabled the identification of an asymmetric core reduction scheme accompanied by a Levallois-like predetermined knapping scheme, along with the production of truncated-faceted pieces and burin-cores. Moreover, the results show a direct relationship between …

  • Tracing ephemeral human occupation through archaeological, palaeoenvironmental and molecular proxies at Łabajowa Cave

    Open Access•Natalia Gryczewska, M Kot et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2023•References: 5

Confirming ephemeral human occupation is a crucial issue in cave archaeology. The project 'Tracing human presence in caves of Polish Jura' focuses on the application of molecular methods to decode the history of past human activities in cave sediments in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. The results will be compared with archaeological and palaeoecological proxies

  • Depositional history of a talus cone in an arid intermontane basin in Central Asia: An interdisciplinary study at the Late Pleistocene–Late Holocene Obishir‐I site, Kyrgyzstan

Open Access•Greta Brancaleoni, Svetlana Shnaider et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 17

Cliff‐related talus accumulations are often highly affected by post‐depositional processes, and the sedimentological characteristics are poorly documented, especially in arid settings. In the southern margin of the Fergana Valley, Kyrgyzstan, the Obishir‐I is an archaeological site of the Epipaleolithic Obishirian industry, located within a talus cone. Archaeological excavations have allowed us to study the internal structure, chronology, and dep…

In the field season of 2019 in the territory of southern Kyrgyzstan, an interdisciplinary field school for the study of the Stone Age site was organized on the basis of the international Central Asian Paleolithic detachment, supported by the Scientific and Educational Center “New Archaeology” (Humanitarian Institute, Novosibirsk State University). The work of the school took place in the framework of three main blocks – lectures, excavation pract…
