Comparing flexible and fixed social media abstinence interventions for undergraduates
Looking into workplace lying flat
Perception vs reality
Purpose This study develops a multi-level framework to examine user perceptions of large language models (LLMs). By investigating the relationships among scenario characteristics (irreplaceability, audience and purpose), user perceptions (familiarity, trust and attitudes) and usage contexts (individual, organizational and societal), this study explores how users evaluate LLM-based chatbots in various contexts, addressing a gap in existing researc…
Hybrid human–AI leadership
Although AI is increasingly assuming autonomous managerial roles within organisations, its leadership effectiveness relative to that of human managers remains lacking. Additionally, AI and humans possess distinct strengths in managerial tasks, suggesting the potential of collaborative human–AI leadership. This study explored the effects of hybrid human–AI leadership on task performance, subjective experience, and neural activation, with the follo…
Effects of task structure and attribution target on responsibility attributions in human–robot interaction
Should I Blame the Human or the Robot? Attribution Within a Human–Robot Group
The first–second language influence on framing effects and loss aversion of balanced bilinguals
Aims: We aimed to investigate the effects of language on the decision-making of bilinguals when they possess almost equal proficiencies in these languages. Methodology: Chinese–English bilinguals were asked to make decisions in Chinese or English. In the first experiment, we used a financial crisis problem to investigate the effects of language on the framing effect. In the second experiment, we used two gambling tasks to investigate the effects …
Is the Senpai—Kouhai relationship common across China, Korea, and Japan
The Senpai—Kouhai relationship is a special senior—junior peer relationship in Japan. We conducted an exploratory survey of 311 Chinese, 266 Korean, and 275 Japanese participants to investigate whether or not this relationship exists in the 2 other cultures. We identified 4 factors through factor analysis to describe the Senpai—Kouhai relationship, namely, trust, supporting, hierarchy, and verbal etiquette. The survey results confirmed the presen…
Cooperative trust and trustworthiness in China and the United States
Our aim was to investigate and compare the effects of cooperating with either a friend or a stranger in a business context on trust and trustworthiness in 2 different cultures. In China, guanxi is a special form of personal relationship in which the exchange partners bond through reciprocal obligations. We conducted cooperation experiments based on the supply chain task in which Chinese and U.S. participants cooperated with their friends and with…
Cooperation with friends or new encounters
We combined the topics of shared leadership, which is a relatively new form of leadership adopted in virtual team management, and tie strength, which affects members' behaviors in online communities, to investigate how they are correlated in a social media context. We conducted 2 experiments involving 64 participants; the first involved close friends and the second, new encounters. The 2 relationship contexts were compared to explore the effects …
Reciprocal Norms Moderate the Influence of Guanxi on Feelings and Behavior of Closeness
Guanxi is a trait of Chinese culture that reveals and underlies the cognition of Chinese individuals regarding their interpersonal connections. We designed an experiment with 36 participants to develop guanxi under laboratory conditions within a short time period. Reciprocal norms moderated the predictive effects of guanxi on feeling closeness. We verified that both behaving generously and guanxi predict feeling closeness and closeness behavior. …
Impact of Self-Construal on Choice of Enterprise Social Media for Knowledge Sharing
Researchers have rarely focused on organizations choosing the right knowledge-sharing media according to users' individual-level variables such as self-construal. We investigated the impact of self-construal (independent vs. interdependent) and organizational relationship (ingroup vs. outgroup) on employees' motivation, self-efficacy, and openness of sharing through two widely adopted online knowledge-sharing social media: wiki (e.g., Wikipedia, …
