In this article, Backhaus et al. shed light on the background, debate and criticism as well as current forms of implementation of Living Labs in higher education. Multiple projects in Germany and the EU help to demonstrate that educational Living Labs can fulfill the triple role of enabling research and education while at the same time advancing the sustainability transformation of higher education institutions and their local or regional surroun…

Educational Assimilation of First-Generation and Second-Generation Immigrants in Germany

The authors find that the causal relationship between terrorism and growth is heterogeneous over time and across space. They argue that the temporal causal heterogeneity can be explained by shifting geographical and ideological patterns in terrori…

Entrepreneurship and regional economic growth
Start-ups of new firms are important for economic growth. However, start-up rates differ significantly between countries and within regions of the same country. A large empirical literature studies the reasons for this and endeavours to identify the regional determinants of start-ups. By contrast, there is a much smaller theoretical literature attempting the formal modelling of the start-up process within a region. In this article, we seek to con…

Explaining Regional Export Performance in a Developing Country
Naudé W. and Gries T. Explaining regional export performance in a developing country: the role of geography and relative factor endowments, Regional Studies. This paper investigates the role of geography in explaining trade. It estimates and contrasts two models, a so-called ‘Skills-to-Land Heckscher–Ohlin Model’ following the work of Wood and Berge (1997) Wood, A. and Berge, K. 1997. Exporting manufactures: human resources, natural resources and…
