This chapter sketches the newly emerged field of Cognitive Contact Linguistics. In simple terms, it approaches language contact—which traditionally and for the most part has been subsumed under sociolinguistics—on the basis of the theoretical principles and methodological toolbox of Cognitive Linguistics.
