Identification of potential probiotic cultures from the Samara region soils
BACKGROUND: Probiotics exert diverse beneficial effects on the human body; probiotic preparations restore the normobiota of the gastrointestinal mucosa and exhibit immunomodulatory properties. Dairy products are the most extensively studied sources of probiotic cultures. Recently, however, active efforts have been directed toward the search for probiotic strains. Soil, as an ecosystem with the greatest microbial biodiversity, represents a promisi…
Comprehensive assessment of nutritional status in university students
BACKGROUND: The increasing prevalence of nutrition-related disorders among university students, driven by poor dietary habits and high academic workload, warrants special attention. This issue is particularly relevant for medical students, who experience significant psycho-emotional stress during their training. Assessing nutritional status during this period is a crucial aspect of preclinical preventive care, as detected deviations may contribut…
Polygenic prediction of educational attainment within and between families from genome-wide association analyses in 3 million individuals
We conduct a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of educational attainment (EA) in a sample of ~3 million individuals and identify 3,952 approximately uncorrelated genome-wide-significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A genome-wide polygenic predictor, or polygenic index (PGI), explains 12–16% of EA variance and contributes to risk prediction for ten diseases. Direct effects (i.e., controlling for parental PGIs) explain roughly half th…
The Use of Patient-Specific Regiments in Obesity Treatment and Prevention Based on Data From Indirect Calorimetry
Excessive intake of nutrient materials combined with low physical activity in modern conditions has led to a high prevalence of obesity among the population. One of the conditions for obesity treatment and prevention is the use of diets based on different diagnostic methods, the effectiveness of some of which remains understudied. The aim of this study is efficacy evaluation of personified diets in obesity treatment and prevention on the basis of…
