The Marri Gudjaga project
Background Breastfeeding protects against a range of conditions in the infant, including sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), diarrhoea, respiratory infections and middle ear infections [1, 2]. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding until six months of age, with continued breastfeeding recommended for at least two years and other complementary nutritious foods [3]. The 2017-18 National Health Survey (NHS) and 2018-…
Perceptions of Live Donor Kidney Transplantation Using Segmentation Analysis and Perceptual Mapping to Understand Differences by Self-Reported Health Status in People on Dialysis
Living donor kidney transplantation is a superior treatment option for those with end stage kidney disease, but most transplants are from deceased donors. Securing a living donor for living donor kidney transplantation requires effective, well-timed communication which many may find difficult or intimidating. This study uses segmentation analysis and an innovative marketing technique called perceptual mapping to create three dimensional models to…
The effect of electronic job aid assisted one‐to‐one counselling to support exclusive breastfeeding among 0–5‐month‐old infants in rural Bangladesh
Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) for the first 6 months has established benefits, yet had slow improvements globally. Little is known about electronic job aid-assisted counselling to support EBF. As a secondary outcome of a cluster randomized controlled trial in Bangladesh, we assessed the effect of electronic job aid-supported nutrition counselling and practical demonstration on EBF. We randomized pregnant women to one of five study arms in the tri…
Exploring barriers and facilitators to PrEP use among transgender women in two urban areas
Without acknowledging specific barriers to PrEP uptake among transgender women separate from those of MSM and incorporating gender affirmation into PrEP education, simply knowing PrEP is available may not motivate trans women to use PrEP. This has important implications for future efforts to communicate about PrEP with trans women
Donor Designation Among Mature Latinas and Lay Health Educators ( Promotoras )
BACKGROUND: Despite positive public attitudes toward solid organ donation in the United States, some of the lowest rates of donor designation persist among older adults and Latinx populations. AIMS: ) and mature Latina (50+ years). METHODS: An explanatory sequential mixed-method design was employed, with telephone surveys followed by focus group interviews, to assess and understand the nuances of organ donation and donor designation knowledge, at…

Effect of nutrition counselling with a digital job aid on child dietary diversity
Adequate dietary diversity among infants is often suboptimal in developing countries. We assessed the impact of nutrition counselling using a digital job aid on dietary diversity of children aged 6-23 months using data from a cluster randomised controlled trial in Bangladesh. The trial had five arms, each with 25 clusters. The four intervention arms provided counselling using a digital job aid and different prenatal and post-natal combinations of…

The national child protection alert system in New Zealand
The New Zealand health system assigns a unique identifier to every user of health services. The National Child Protection Alert System enables an alert to be placed against this identifier, making child protection information available to health providers throughout the country. Local health-based multi-disciplinary teams receive requests for an alert and decide whether an alert should be placed, but the proportion of requests accepted for an ale…
Determinants of age‐appropriate breastfeeding, dietary diversity, and consumption of animal source foods among Indonesian children
Global child feeding practices remain suboptimal. In this study, we assess the determinants of age-inappropriate breastfeeding, dietary diversity, and consumption of 3+ types of animal source foods (ASFs) using 11,687 observations from combined data from the Indonesian Demographic Health Survey of 2012 and 2017. We used linear and logistic regression after adjusting for the complex sampling design. Child's age and quality of antenatal care (ANC) …
M‐Sakhi—Mobile health solutions to help community providers promote maternal and infant nutrition and health using a community‐based cluster randomized controlled trial in rural India
Reduction of childhood stunting is difficult to achieve by interventions that focus only on improving nutrition during infancy. Comprehensive interventions that extend through the continuum of care from pregnancy to infancy are needed. Mobile phones are now successfully being used for behaviour change communication to improve health. We present the methodology of an mHealth intervention "Mobile Solutions Aiding Knowledge for Health Improvement" (…
Women in Civil War Texas
This impressive collection of essays brings together in one volume a number of the most prominent scholars of Civil War–era Texas women. A comprehensive examination of the experience of this notably diverse population of females—white (both Anglo American and German-born), African American, Tejana—these essays demonstrates the scholarly sophistication achieved by the current generation of historians examining the experience of women in the Lone S…
Health complaints and practitioner regulation
This article reviews the objectives pursued by health complaints entities (HCEs), how they mesh with bodies concerned with the regulation of health practitioners, and how these functions map against those of administrative review and theories of consumer accountability. We show that HCEs pursue multiple and diverse objectives shared by ‘hybrid’ institutions dealing with complex ‘polycentric’ disputes or dynamic circumstances, constituting one par…
National Registration of Health Practitioners
When the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) for health practitioners commenced in Australia in 2010, all jurisdictions joined the scheme for the registration and accreditation of health practitioners, but NSW retained its existing co‐regulatory complaint‐handling system. We sought to compare the new National notifications and the NSW complaints handling processes, as NSW has an independent investigative and prosecutory body to …
Children's Attitudes toward Cats on St. Kitts, West Indies
Little is known of the attitudes of Caribbean people toward freeroaming and pet cats, so we conducted a questionnaire survey of primaryschool children aged 5 to 13 years (n = 417, 206 girls and 209 boys, while two questionnaires did not indicate gender) in 23 schools around St. Kitts. Over 50% reported they owned or had owned a cat, and ownership was associated with feelings of happiness and comfort. Children reported 511 reasons for liking cats …

Changing epidemiologic patterns of deliberate self poisoning in a rural district of Sri Lanka
Acute poisoning remains a major public health problem in rural Sri Lanka and pesticide poisoning remains the most important poison. However, cases of medicinal drug poisoning have recently dramatically increased. Youth in these rural communities remain very vulnerable to acute poisoning and the problem is so common that school-based primary prevention programs may be worthwhile.Lalith Senarathna, Shaluka F Jayamanna, Patrick J Kelly, Nick A Buckl…

A more physically active lifestyle appears to be associated with a lower odds of metabolic syndrome in Vietnamese adolescents. Socio-economic status should be taken into account when planning interventions to prevent adolescent metabolic syndrome
The Election of 1896 and the Restructuring of Civil War Memory
Gilded Age Republicans were notorious for attacking their Democratic opponents by waving the bloody shirt, a campaign tactic designed to activate the historical remembrance of the Civil War among Northern voters. Carefully selected, the wartime memories used by bloody-shirt Republicans became as familiar as the scriptures: GOP candidates reminded Northern voters of the party of Lincoln's firmness in the face of secession and portrayed the wartime…

Where Will the Baby Sleep? Attitudes and Practices of New and Experienced Parents Regarding Cosleeping with Their Newborn Infants
An evolutionary perspective on human infant sleep physiology suggests that parent-infant cosleeping, practiced under safe conditions, might be beneficial to both mothers and infants. However, cosleeping is not part of mainstream parenting ideology in the United States or the United Kingdom, and little evidence is available to indicate whether, and under what circumstances, parents sleep with their newborn infants. We present data from an anthropo…
