  • An anthropometric model for nutrition research of Estonian female students

Open Access•Jana Peterson, Jana J Peterson et al.•ARTICLE•Papers on Anthropology•2012

The study is focused on creating an anthropometric model that would enable to associate the body build peculiarities with nutritional variables. Thirty-six body measurements and 12 skinfolds were measured on 131 17–23-year-old female students of the University of Tartu, and 12 body composition characteristics were calculated. The subjects had to submit descriptions of their 24-hour menus. Nutrient intake was determined using the Micro-Nutrica sof…

  • Adolescent female volleyballers' (aged 13-15 years) body build classification and proficiency in competitions

Raini Stamm, Meelis Stamm et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2006

The present paper studies the body build and proficiency in the game of 74 female volleyballers aged 13-15 years from eight teams, who participated in Estonian championships. Fourteen anthropometric measurements were taken from the players, and these data were systematized into a 5 SD height-weight classification (small, medium, large, pyknomorphous and leptomorphous). The players participated in 28 matches, which were recorded in parallel with t…

  • Body build classification for ordinary schoolgirls (aged 7-18 years) and volleyball girls (aged 13-16 years)

Helje Kaarma, Raini Stamm et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2005

The article describes two Estonian anthropometric cross-sectional studies of 1549 ordinary schoolgirls (aged 7-18) and 46 girls, who regularly practised volleyball (aged 13-16). Data are presented on 22 basic anthropometric measurements and 6 body composition characteristics (body mass index, mean skinfold, body density, relative mass of fat by Siri, absolute mass and relative mass of subcutaneous adipose tissue). All anthropometric variables wer…

  • Body build classes as a method for systematization of age-related anthropometric changes in girls aged 7-8 and 17-18 years

Jaan Kasmel, Helje Kaarma et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2004

A total of 462 schoolgirls aged 7-8 and 17-18 years were examined anthropometrically (45 body measurements and 10 skinfolds) in a cross-sectional study. The data were processed in two age groups: 7-8-year-olds (n = 205) and 17-18-year-olds (n = 257). Relying on average height and weight in the groups, both groups were divided into five body build classes: small, medium, large, pyknomorphous and leptomorphous. In these classes, the differences in …

  • Systematisation of anthropometric data of 17-year-old schoolgirls from Tartu, Estonia

Katrin Saluvere, Jana Peterson et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1998

An anthropometric study of 358 healthy schoolgirls at the age from 17 to 18 years from all secondary schools of Tartu was carried out. 42 single body measurements and 11 skinfolds were measured, and 45 indices and body composition characteristics were derived from them. The data were systematised into 5 height-weight SD-classes according to the correspondence between height and weight. There were 3 classes with relative correspondence between hei…
