  • The key role of Pb-Bi, Pb-Te-Se and S-Fe-Te-Se inclusions, microstructures, and corrosion processes in reconstructing Etruscan metallurgy at Pyrgi (Latium, Italy)

Open Access•Marta Porcaro, Laura Maria Michetti et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2025•References: 9

Nails and aes rude are made of Cu, while arrowheads are made of Cu-Sn-Pb alloy. • Pb-Bi, Pb-Te-Se, and S-Fe-Te-Se inclusions trace ancient Etruscan metallurgy. • Cuprite and malachite were identified by micro-Raman as the main corrosion products. • Electrochemical tests showed variability in corrosion among site areas. The archaeological site of Pyrgi (Santa Severa, Rome, Italy) has yielded a diverse range of metal artifacts that provide valuable…

  • Electrochemical methods to discriminate technology and provenance of Apulian red‐figured pottery. II

    Open Access•Antonio Doménech-Carbó, Michele Giannuzzi et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2022

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was applied to a set of microsamples of Apulian red‐figured pottery coming from the archaeological sites of Altamura, Arpi, Conversano, Monte Sannace, Taranto, and Pella. EIS data using Fe (CN) 6 3− /Fe (CN) 6 4− as a redox probe yields information on the roughness, porosity, shape, and size distribution of inclusions in the clay body. Impedance parameters after equivalent circuit modeling permit the d…

  • Electrochemical methods to discriminate technology and provenance of Apulian red‐figured pottery. I. Vimp and Secm

    Open Access•Antonio Doménech-Carbó, Michele Giannuzzi et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2022•References: 50

Voltammetry of immobilized particles (VIMP) and scanning electrochemical microscopy techniques are combined to study nanosamples from 60 Apulian red‐figured pottery objects from six Apulian archaeological sites (Altamura, Arpi, Conversano, Egnazia, Monte Sannace, Taranto) and three Attic samples from Pella. The VIMP signatures corresponding to the electrocatalytic effect of microparticulate deposits of the clay body and the black gloss on the oxy…

  • Valencian red imprimaturs since Francisco Ribalta (1565-1628)

    Open Access•Amparo Castelló-Palacios, Noemí Montoya et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2022•References: 4

  • Electrochemical Characterization and Dating of Archaeological Leaded Bronze Objects Using the Voltammetry of Immobilized Particles

    Open Access•Antonio Doménech-Carbó, A DOMÉNECH‐CARBÓ et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 47

The application of solid state electrochemistry techniques for the characterization and dating of leaded bronze objects is described. Characteristic voltammetric signatures of copper and lead corrosion products were used as markers of more or less prolonged corrosion periods. The proposed methodology was applied to samples from the Roman archaeological sites of Valeria (Spain) and Gadara (Jordan), Roman and medieval sites in Xàtiva (Spain), and m…

  • Discovery of indigoid-containing clay pellets from La Blanca

    Open Access•Antonio Doménech-Carbó, María Teresa Doménech-Carbó et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2013•Cited by: 3•References: 3

  • Characterization of prehispanic cosmetics found in a burial of the ancient city of Teotihuacan (Mexico)

    Open Access•María Teresa Doménech-Carbó, María Teresa Doménech‐Carbó et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2011•Cited by: 11•References: 10

  • Electrochemistry and Authentication of Archaeological Lead Using Voltammetry of Microparticles

    Open Access•Antonio Doménech-Carbó, A DOMÉNECH‐CARBÓ et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2011•Cited by: 4•References: 33

An essentially non‐invasive electrochemical methodology addressed to the authentication of archaeological lead is described. The method is based on the record of the voltammetric response of nanosamples from the archaeological artefact mechanically transferred to a graphite ‘pencil’ electrode in contact with aqueous buffers. Three diagnostic criteria for authentication are described based on the appearance of: (i) oxidative dissolution signals fo…

  • Correlation Between Spectral, Sem/Edx and Electrochemical Properties of Maya Blue

    Open Access•Antonio Doménech-Carbó, A DOMÉNECH et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2009•Cited by: 2•References: 42

Visible spectra, composition from SEM/EDX and solid‐state electrochemical data are correlated for a set of 12 Maya Blue samples from different archaeological sites of Campeche and Yucatán (Mexico). In addition to indigo and dehydroindigo, indirubin and other possibly indigo‐type compounds can be detected in Maya Blue samples. Application of hierarchical cluster analysis techniques allows similarity relationships to be established between samples …

  • Characterization of Iranian Moarraque glazes by light microscopy, SEM-EDX and voltammetry of microparticles
