An Evangelical View of Transcendence and Senior Adult Attitudes
This article expands the previous article on the subject of Erikson's and Maslow's concepts of transcendence. It takes an evangelical Christian approach to examining the ways older adults experience spiritual growth. Ways senior adults migrate from meanings that are only physically based toward meanings that are derived from spirituality are discussed. Transcendence and Aging: The Secular Insights of Erikson and Maslow
This article explores the relationship of Erik Erikson's psychosocial developmental theory and Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs to the needs of older persons for continued spiritual development. Both Erikson and Maslow added the spiritual concept transcendence to their theoretical formulations in their own later years. Tornstam's postulations regarding gereotranscendence, built upon Erikson's eighth stage is also examined
